Root [Avail] Avail stuck - need experienced user's help

JJChowboy

Newbie
Have ZTE Z990 AT&T Avail. Was working excellent. Have flashed several roms, but recently reflashed to stock with WM6 and am rooted. Now phone hangs at AT&T logo screen - cannot get to CWM recovery. Pulled battery, tried all kinds of button combinations, but still no boot or access to CWM6. Am at wits end....

Can someone suggest to me a way to get this phone going again? Can't use any program using computer beause will not detect phone or comm port since won't boot. Likewise with the phone itself.

If impossible, please say so and will look for new phone. This one is OOW as of November 2012.

Thanks.

you're not the first and you won't be the last to experience this type of problem...

sounds like you had a bad flash or bad restore.

if you can't into recovery then you're screwed basically and will need a new phone

you can try removing your back cover and pressing the reset button next to the camera lens for about 15 seconds and then reboot and see if that fixes your issue, but i doubt it will

you should contact the dev who made the (possibly faulty) cwm6 and see if he has any suggestions for you.

lets try someting first:
>Take out battery and put it back in
>while pressing both the + and - Volume keys connect the phone to your PC using the USB cable that came with it. BTW this will result in a black screen as the only notification you get is from windows when you connect something to the PC
>open device manager in control panel and look under ports and see if there is something that says "ZTE Handset Diagnostic Interface(DFU) (COMXX)"
>should look like this:
x27Vu9Y.png

>if it those go into DFU mode let me know and i shall provide further instructions.

Hey. I did as instructed below and in Device Manager I see under ports: ZTE Handset Diagnostic Interface(DFU) (C0M3). I have left it like that until I contacted you as requested. Any more help from this point will certainly be appreciated.

Awesome, first we will try to restore it from a T-card update that you will need to put on your sd card, the reason I asked you to put in DFU mode was to make sure there was an alternative way to restore if the T-card update method failed.

1. first things first, you will need to head over to this link over at Androidarea51.com: [T-Card][Avail] - Android Area51
2. download the file that is on the link provided there,
3. once you have downloaded it to your computer, extract the contents of the sip to your Desktop preferably for easy access.
4. now open the folder where the file was extracted, in the folder find the file that says "image.bin" copy that and you will need to put on your sd card
5. on your sd card, create a folder and name it "image", open the newly created folder and paste the "image.bin" file in there.
6. once you have that put your sd card on your avail again, now take remove your battery and replace it back on the phone
7. now we need to get to flash the image file to the avail now and to do that you need to do this: press the home key, volume up key, and power key together,, that should bring you to a screen that say "Update from T-Flash card!" in green, it will first verify the file and then update the avail. wait for it to finish
8. once done the phone should reboot and should be working now.

should you have any questions feel free to ask and I will get to you as soon as I can

I copied made a folder called Image on my MicroSDCard and copied the image.bin file into it. Put the SD card back in phone and tried flash image as you instructed, but alas, it did not flash phone. I tried with data cable still plugged in, and without data cable plugged in, but no joy either way.
I only had a black screen both ways, with no perceptible action occurring.

Can we do more, or is the phone dead? I am going to change phones when I get my next paycheck on the 1st, but I still have about $80.00 on the phone for calling and want to at least use that up. I am going to ST and if I have to lose money, ok, too.

Just wanted to see if my Avail could be revived.

Thank you for your time and help.

The folder should be "image" (all case sensitive) not "Image" try that, if that doesn't work I still have one more thing we can try.

I did make the folder named image not Image and copied the image.bin into it, but nothing happened. I can't get Odin to see a com port because the phone won't load. And won't see a recovery for same reason.

What else do you suggest? If you think it's dead, I will quit bothering you.

Thanks.

its not dead yet, since it can still go on DFU mode there is still a chance to save it.
1. Place the phone in DFU mode like you did the other day and connect it to your PC
2. now download and extract the files from here to your desktop or where it's better accessible for you.
3. remember the image.bin file i asked you to download the other day? now i want you to extract it with the files that are in the image extractor.zip that you downloaded just now.
4. now in the v880_conversion_recovery.zip file there is a folder named "files", put all the files that you just extracted in that folder.
5. now am assuming you still have your avail in DFU mode and connected to your PC still so now run the file "USDL_P726CV1.00.00" located in the v880_conversion_recovery folder make sure you run it as administrator btw.
6. next its going to ask you for a user name and password, to get the user name you should click on the "!" button then it should display Administrator and ask for the password, the password is located in the file "administrator pw" use it and click ok.
7. by going on device manager on control panel look which port your phone is using for DFU mode, click on "options" "port config" and where it says "Line1--DIAG" select the port your phone is on.
8. now the application should show "Phone in Download mode", click on "SW Directory" and navigate to where the image.bin files you extracted in the "files" folder are located.
9. now since your cannot be set in FTM mode we can't back up you IMEI data but don't worry about it we can fix it later on, look under "config" and set it up like this one on this image:
bDPPVcg.png

10. one its set up like that click on "start all" and wait for it to finish, once done your phone should reboot and hopefully it will be working again.

PS. if any thing don't be afraid to ask am here to help you as much as i can

Hi, guy. My ZTE avail is still stuck. I completed the process you instructed me to do in DFU mode. It returned PASS at the end of program. At least the phone is alive, but all it will do when you try to turn it on is vibrate. It vibrates when I try to enter recovery mode; when I push power key; anything I do, it will vibrate but stays with a black screen.

Any idea what that means? I don't understand if it is flashing, then why isn't it loading -but just vibrates?

Thank you for your excellent help. At least the phone is doing something now.

Try reflashing it again maybe some files weren't flash, i'll try to upload the files i used gor my one and once am done i will send them to you, in the mean time try reflashing it again

Well, it appears that I didn't read your instructions correctly the first time. I decided to do the DFU thing one more time, and this time followed the instructions to a "T". I placed all files in "Files" directory but when I tried to select the SW Directory I get this message: CEFS file is not exist, please select again. I cannot find a CEFS file anywhere on my system and can find only a little info on the Internet about it. I only know it's a Qualcomm file system and don't know what it is used for. When I choose the Flies directory it just shows that same message every time I select it. Is there supposed to be a CEFS file in that package or not. If not, how do I continue with the flash?

Thanks.

Hi, guy.

I cannot take a screenshot of anything now because the phone won't boot. As an aside, I have been playing with the phone at different times, but it never would boot and would always have the black screen. Well last night, I was trying to flash it with the UDFL program, but nothing happened. Same old same old. So I left it connected to the computer and turned computer off when I went to bed. Well,, when I turned it on today, I got a shock when the phone flashed some lights and started charging the battery, showing the battery charging logo. SoI left it charging, When I unplugged it from the computer ir seemed to start and, the boot went to the rethink Possible logo, and that is where it's stuck now - just as it was when I first asked for help here.

I am fairly new here and do not understand what you mean by "instead use the files I sent you".

Thanks.
