Root Avant free tethering?

actually I have Fiddler 2.5.1 but maybe I need to go back. What is the version you're running?
I've got 2.48 or 2.49. I'm not sure exactly which one because I don't have my computer right now. You probably do need to go back to the old version if you can

well 2.9.9. doesn't work and I can't seem to find 2.9.8 to try it. I think metropcs is ****ing magic or something they seem to sniff stuff out pretty quick

I haven't even heard of 2.9.9 or 2.9.8
You need a version below 2.5
Or they may have gotten more advanced idk. I don't have my PC right now so I can't say for sure.

I have the tmobile avant rooted. i have unlimited data. my daughter likes to watch netflix on her tablet. can i use the WiFi Tether and what would I use for the switching agent?

I use Mozilla Firefox then add the "user agent switcher" in the add-ons feature (which you can do without having the feature installed already, but you will need to use a preexisting internet connection to download the actual Firefox program initially) after you do this, every time you start the program you will have to go to "tools" and "default user agent" then select either Googlebot 2.0 or one of the IE's or IPhone features. All seem to *generally* work but if you reach a hangup try one of the other choices. I perdonally switch to Googlebot but it has issues with facebook and other sites that use secure (HTTPS:// instead of http://) connections. In which case I can use the default user agent or IPhone user agent with no problems or "you must purchase tethering" pop up or blocker screen.

you can use "Fiddler2" program go to www.fiddler2.com download it, open it, go to rules, user agent, all the way down to custom and click it. leave the box blank and click ok. DO NOT CLOSE THE PROGRAM. and your good to go WIFI Tether Router has a specific way to be set up I can help there too. also read this

also a tablet may not need a user agent (almost sure) and i don't know if you want fiddler on there but it works great on pc

if you could help that would be great. I am a computer programmer, but have never messed with my phone before so all of this is new. So I install fiddler2 on my phone or on the nexus 7 2013 tablet? again, I want the tablet to use my phones tmobile data plan to watch netflix. Is fiddler2 instead of the WiFI Tether Router software mentioned on this thread? Will I be able to wifi hot spot, or will I need a mini usb cable (I have never seen a mini usb to mini usb cable, I guess that they make them). Anyway, I have a lot of questions and any help for this newbie would be appreciated. We are going on a long car trip soon.

If you get a tether plain from tmobile like even a small one and use pretty much any tether app your tether usages doesn't get your at least it is real slow

I don't think you need a user agent on your tablet because it is android and now that i say that I gotta say I don't think they make fiddler for android. But like I said I don't think you need it and hey know this I'm a noob myself so take my advice at your own risk. and just to make sure were on the same page are you rooted?

I do have maybe 3gb of wifi hotspot from T-Mobile. but my girl goes through it pretty fast on Netflix.

Just installed WIFI Tether Router and set it up. The Nexus 7 sees it and connects. I will have to let it play for awhile tomorrow to make sure I do not get cut off when I reach my 3gb wifi hot spot limit. So you think that I do not need fiddler or some sort of User Agent Switcher for my Nexus 7 2nd Gen tablet?

I had tether plan. Your safe to use that app and won't count towards hotspot limit. Just stick to that app and get rid of hotspot plan, its a rip off. You won't need those programs for tablets. You will with pc/laptops/etc. Make sure you change the APN as well.

You guys are right. He wont need a user agent switcher or anything else to connect a tablet. I'm sorry, I mistakenly thought he was asking about a computer.

Reading.
Fail.

I apologize. :(

so you are rooted? WiFi Tether Router is for rooted phones. That's the reason I ask. Your gonna have to make a separate APN even if you think you got it set up without doing that. The new APN is going to be the exact same as the fast metropcs that you are connected to except in the two lines that determine if it's IP6 or IP4 and they both should show IP4

Edit There is also a tether provision removal zip around here that you need also if you need it let me know I'll try to find the post

I am rooted. I installed WiFI Tether Router exactly like it is described in the "Best Answer" on this thread. I copied exactly my default APN (including mmsc and apn type) and made the listed changes. I have an unlimited data plan with T-Mobile. They give me 3gb to hot spot or tether at no extra charge. RIght now I am over my 3gb so when I turn on T-Mobile hot spot it does not broadcast out - my nexus tablet says "not in range". But if I use the WiFi Tether the nexus tablet connects and has access to the Internet and most importantly - Netflix.

So with the WiFi Tether Router, T-Mobile will still see the data being used but just won't know that it is being used as a hotspot?

What is a tether provision removal zip?

correct on your first question. your tablet is android so Tmobile should think its your phone. (so i've been led to believe)
2nd question, on my phone just trying to turn on the tethering brings up a box that tells me I have to get the metropcs tethering. This is on the phone not what I'm trying to connect to. so the zip stops that from happening (maybe other stuff i don't know) but it is only for the Avant and there are separate for Tmobile vs Metropcs. But if you are already above your limit and don't have that issue then don't worry about it unless you want it just it case.
like i said I'm a noob so listen at your own risk.

@thebrenda
I can tell you for a fact because I also have a Nexus 7 2013 WiFi and regularly use WiFi Tether Router. I used to have the tethering plan a couple of months back. I had 2.5GB a month. When I used WiFi Tether Router, data I used on my tablet did not count towards my hotspot and neither did my PC as long as I remembered to change the user agent before I started using the internet.

The only thing that counted against my hotspot usage was when I used my hotspot to play my Xbox360 online because there is no way to change the user agent on Xbox360. The actual gameplay doesn't use much data at all so as long as I went to a friends house to download and update games I could make my 2.5gb last all month.

It seems Metro did something as of June 12 (when they started to allowed 6GB of free hotspot on the 60GB plan). I'm using wifi tether router and it slows me down on my tablets/phones connected. I have a VPN that I turn on and it goes around it and then can go back to full speed. Wondering if there was another work around?

To be honest, I wouldn't give a damn about who is tethering how much if it wasn't for the fact that now I'm getting throttled because of all the jackasses that are still using hundreds of gigs a month. MetroPCS and T-Mobile are so desperate to catch people doing unauthorized tethering that they are starting to count any user agent spoofery to your hotspot data. I use an app called Advanced Download Manager to download files directly to my external SD card instead of having to constantly move everything after I download it, and now every bit of data used by that app is getting counted against my hotspot data because Advanced Download Manager has a user agent option in the settings. I'm really getting pissed because all the people trying to get something for nothing aren't "sticking it to the man" anymore. Now they are sticking it to the rest of us.
