Awesome Best Buy deal for Note 4 Upgrade

The manger at the Bestbuy in our town says it is being handled like Verizon. A gift card for what your phone is worth then you apply for the rest through Samsung. I will have to check with another Bestbuy.

I did get to play with one for a bit

Considering their own site clearly states the $200 gift card, that BB person must have went to the Samsung School of Communication Excellence ;) Being VERY ironic :)

How soon does this deal expire at Best Buy?? The closest BB to me is about 2 hours. Quite a drive to save $200. I'll spend $75 in gas to get there and back plus the time. I can make it into a sunday afternoon shooping getaway I suppose, but don't really want or need to.

October 16. Can't pre-orders be made online or via phone?

Thanks for the info on the date. I am not sure about preorders online/over the phone with Best Buy. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the advice!
they can be done online and over the phone but u will have to wait to get your 200dollar gift car where as in store u get it instantly and u can use it on the phone itself

Do we need to bring charger, original box, headphones from trade in phone?

Is it full $200 for iPhone 5?

Will the gift card be used towards purchase of Note 4 on the spot at time of purchase?

Will Note 4 sell out at BB?

I should cancel my Verizon preorder if it's BB does it right.

If your iphone 5 trade in value is over $10 on vzw you could use the samsung trade in program. It does look to be a limited quantity available though.

I had originally preordered with vzw, canceled that earlier this week and did the BB preorder yesterday, I called and did the preorder cancel over the phone with a vzw rep.

All you need is the trade in phone itself. No packaging, headphones, etc.
You have to put $50 down to do the preorder, which gives you another BB gift card for $50 to cash in when you get the note.

The gift cards can be used to pay towards the phone fees or anything else best buy sells if you prefer, it is instant and your iphone would get the full $200.

Technically your trade in phone must power on/off, not have a cracked/chipped screen, must not have any damage around the charging port and have an intact charging port.
The mobile manager I spoke with yesterday said they are mainly focusing on cracked screens, but that could just be my store.

I seriously doubt they will sell out, since the phones are so big and they are sandwiching the release between iphone and the holidays.

No problem. It says the details on the link in the first post I started on this thread.

Additionally, from what I remember with online/phone pre-orders (which can definitely be placed online), my understanding is that the gift card is sent after the fact. That's the only advantage of going in store, as the gift card can be applied to the purchase, when buying in the store.

That's why I recommended calling because you could explain how the closest Best Buy is quite far from you, but you didn't want to miss this deal, and you have a working smartphone to exchange for the $200 card. I've found that, if you ask in a nice manner without being demanding, they typically find a way to make it work. If not, then it'll have to be a decision to make whether it's worth the travel for you.

Thanks for the update. The question still remains: Does the trade in phone have to be the currently activated phone ? Or can I find a flip phone for trade in ?

I noticed the price this morning. Going to Best Buy on Saturday to check this out. I will probably leave mad at them like every time I go to that store.

To be clear, this is just for Sprint. And that's not Best Buy, it's Sprint. Sprint did the same thing last year, for the Note 3. All the other carriers were offering at $299, while Sprint added $50 (on the subsidized price). Lots of people were upset about it. Didn't stop me, since I got enough money back for my Note 2, as well as some left over gift cards, that the only thing out of pocket was my upgrade fee, but unfortunately, that is how it was and seems it will be again this year.

After you pay the $50.00 pre-order, then you get the $200.00 gift card when you pick up the phone for the trade in, you are left with only $150.00 to pay on Sprint. $100.00 on the other carriers. To me that's a good deal. And don't forget the tax.

And, for those of you that signed up for that special $50 upgrade, for registering your phone number earlier in the year, that's another $50 to take off the total price.

Okay. I think I got the definitive answer. There was a Samsung rep in the BB and a BB manager at lunch today there too. The Samsung rep confirmed with their regional sales office as well.

The offer is for contract purchases only and NOT for off contract. The $200 card is only authorized with a contract transaction with a carrier. No contract, no $200 card. The Best Buy manager also said they can apply the $200 card to the purchase and showed me the process. On contract, the phone will be $100- after the applied gift card. This is on the spot and no delay.

I have a phone line with data that has an upgrade still. I might use that, since BB mobile said they can apply to the line and then swap my SIM into it. I do know I am out of luck (as others) for getting $200 off for full price.

Note 4 is nice, BTW.

I spoke with two Samsung sales reps from two different stores, multiple Best Buy employees and a manager and was told that I could take advantage of this promo by paying full price for the phone and trading in my old one to get $200 off of the full price of the phone. I just pre-ordered a few hours ago. I will simply cancel and raise hell if they change their story come the 17th. I plan to price match also. If this goes as planned, it will make the Note4 a no brainer for me!

They can't do it. Unless their point of sale system is changed to allow it, not even the manager of the store can override since is out of their hands. The current method for the $200 card authorization is through upgrading and that is it.

Yes- I do agree there will be heck raising in BB stores and also with the carrier trade-in and Samsung process. The regional rep for Samsung stated that is how the BB process works and how the entire program was supposed to work for everyone.

I did not get an answer though for how they expect to police this outside of Best Buy. Complete Absolute Fook-Up.

All Samsung has to do is publish an answer, but they are hiding behind the terms and conditions and "limitations". I wonder if Apple will have fun with this at some point?

Will Best Buy still honor this other promotion along with the $200 one? I'm sure hoping they will but I haven't heard for sure.

You mean the $50? They should because it's taken off prior to tax being calculated. It used to be called "phone freedom," but they took that name away last year and I don't know what it was called anymore. It's linked to your Best Buy Rewards account or Phone number, assuming you registered your phone number with them by a certain cutoff date.

The $200 pre-order promotion is an exchange for a phone and the $200 is used towards the purchase of the phone (i.e. used after taxes are calculated).

The price for the Note 4 on the Sprint site has gone down to $299.99 on the 2 yr contract just like the other Notes from other carriers. Plus they also fixed the price issue that had the white Note 4 $24 more than the white one.

Best Buy updated their price back to $299 for all the other carriers also.

Samsung rep I spoke with also confirmed as of right now pick up dates for the phones is the 17th for AT&T and Sprint, 24th for VZW.

Yes. I've upgraded several phones through them in the past and have asked if they can price match the full retail price (to lower the tax amount), when buying on a subsidized upgrade, and they've never been able to do that. That's just my experience though. Ends up being worth it though (even with the higher tax amount) because I'd typically have several Best Buy gift cards to use, which would ends up costing me much less out of pocket.

I just came back from Best Buy and I asked them about the price match. They said they would be able to do it. I would just need to get a manager to approve it. I guess we will see what happens.
