Help AWFUL ringtones

daneaston

Newbie
Since my S3 arrived yesterday, I've kept it on silent as all the available ringtones are incredibly wanky. Could anyone suggest how I can get a non-embarrassing, straightforward 'ring' and how to install it on my S3? Thanks.

Don't look at me, I have Peewee Herman's laugh as my ringtone. LOL.

but I will say to use Kies Air on the phone, probably the easiest way to upload a ringtone to the right place and have it immediately recognized.

Thanks, although I simply couldn't get Kies to work on my MacBook Air so subsequently deleted it (and would rather not try and load it again). Is it possible to do so without Kies?

No, not Kies, Kies Air.. from the phone. The phone will give you a URL to access the phone's internal goodness (sms/photos/logs/ringtones/etc) over your wifi. Wont matter what you connect with. One of the most awesome features the Galaxy phones have IMO.

I think the ringtones and notification were for the Asian crowd as I could not stand mine. I just emailed some of my favorite Blackberry ringtones and they play fine on the G3

You can easily find some good ringtone mp3s online by searching, then just add them to either the internal or external memory in a directory called Ringtones. There already are directories on \sdcard called Ringtones, Notifications, and Alarms, but I moved them under a top-level directory called Media just to clean things up a little. It'll find them under there too.

Or you can just make your own from mp3s if you like, or copy them from your old phone if it had ones you liked. On my Incredible the ones that came with the phone are in \system\media\audio.

yea...it's embarrassing. i brag about the phone, but then when it rings, i have to explain "no no no no. don't listen to that. see, what had happened was........." I prefer the classic bell tone, I want that back.

I was hoping someone would explain to me how this Kies thing worked. So you simply access another device on your wifi and send stuff back and forth... right???

EDIT: WOW! Just did this and it is really really is awesome how this works! One thing, I was trying to download multiple files of music to my sdcard but it said I needed a java plug-in or update. But working on a Mac they do their own java updates and my system is up to date. Wonder if there is a fix for this....?

I guess I'm in the minority, but I kinda like the ringtones/notification sounds. Found a few of each that I really like.

I miss my alarm sound though.. I'll check out the app everyone's talking about here.

I ripped a few ringtones from youtube videos. ROFLMAO and My Horse Is Amazing. Both of which annoy the crap out of my wife, so it's a win/win.

AirDroid is available for all android devices, and is very similar to if not better than Kies air. One of the few apps in the Play store that have 5*s!

Your comment inspired me to google My Horse is Amazing. After watching it I laughed like an idiot for about 5 minutes. Thanks. :)
