back to basics

I'm sorry if.this information is available elsewhere on the forum - I'm not even sure what to search for.

I am looking for a really easy to understand list ( maybe not list) of terms and other things. I am completely lost with most of the tech talk. I don't know what rooting is, I don't know what version of Android my Evo is running, basically, I don't know anything and I don't know the tech vocabulary so I'm having a hard time learning.

So patience and help would be much appreciated. First questions/ what does rooting mean? How do I fund out what software version my phone runs?

We all had to start somewhere.

Rooting means getting root access to phone, superuser so to speak. Rooting gives you FULL control over phone. See the rooting section for more. It is a bitvof an "advanced" topic, mostvusers will never root. And rooting may stop you from grating official releases.

Touvare most likely running Android 2.1 unless you heated already yesterday to 2.2. Go to settings/about phone to learn more.

Yes it would be great if we had a page we could go to to learn some basics. I am new and coming from BB and while I'd like to think I am kinda techy my new Droid X is kinda kicking my butt in some basic areas....
