back up my data to google severs? setting. plz help

Hey fellas

I've for Android gingerbread. In settings, privacy it has a option for back up my data. Its days it will back up my application settings, passwords etc... it is enabled. What does this acutely do?

I'm worried that it is useing up unnecessary data on my 2gb plan.

It does just what it says. Only uses a small amount of data.

Wat I'm asking is, is it nessisary? So it bascicly backs every thing up in case my phone breaks etc... III can make my new phone exactly like this one?
