Backed up and resetting

Just backed up my phone and while resetting it wants to verify my google account and it's trying to phone the phone I'm resetting with the code.

Any suggestions please

Samsung S4 mini

The 'phone to the phone'?
And what code do you refer to? Please try to be as clear as possible.. So we can help as best as possible.

Google was trying to send the verification code to the phone I had just reset. Sorry about not being clearer, ended up adding a phone number to my Google account and received the code fine.

Another quick question: My Samsung had the standard messaging app and of course it was deleted but I wondering if any of the texts are stored in an account anywhere. I understood that I would loose the messages but know realize that I've lost a few numbers. It's not a really big deal but if it is available I would like to recover.

If you didn't have any backup specifically set for SMS/MMS messages, then they're gone. Sorry :(

However, if it's only the numbers you are after, your carrier should have a record of the texts you've sent and received and should be able to provide you details including the numbers, just not the content.

This may not be 100% true. If you have root and twrp/custom recovery.. And have made a nandroid backup.... You CAN recover texts/numbers... See...

Thanks for help, Sprint had a log of my calls in and out.

Can you please suggest posts that talk about rooting. I would like to get info on latest software etc...

Click on Browse More (left side) and scroll down to where the Rooting Topic is and read the various inputs on the phone make you want to root.

It was the "Back Up and Reset" that I referred to that I selected when I reset the S4 mini.

Would that have backed up other Android files?
Do I have to reinstall anything? I suppose I'm thinking that when selecting reset it would have reinstalled anything that it needed.....

Backup and Reset > Backup my Data? - Backup Account? - Automatic Restore? - Factory Data Reset? It will depend on which option you chose. Factory Data Rest is the one which will wipe all and return phone to out of the box condition.

The backup settings and apps in Android is a little misleading. What it does is remember your installed app list and saves settings. What it doesn't backup is your data. For example, if you had backup enabled and you factory reset your phone, when you logged in using the same Google account, it would reinstall all your apps from the play store and then restore your settings and some preferences. You get back WiFi credentials and sync settings, but if you didn't have things like files and photos set to sync automatically they would be gone.

I sync my photos on WiFi only to save mobile data, but seeing as I am always connected to WiFi at some point during the day, my photos get backed up. My email on my phone is all imap, so those are saved on the server anyway. The only thing i have to back up manually is the messaging database, which is what most people forget and come here asking about restoring after the fact.
