Help Backing Up All Contact Meta Data

I backed up my contacts using the standard Android contact backup to my SD card (as a vCard). I then had to delete all my contacts and import them from the backup.

To my dismay, only the most basic info was restored. I lost all group associations, ringtones, birthdays, etc..

Is there any way (app) to backup and restore all contact info?
