Help Backing up contacts to editable format

I'm looking for a way to backup all offline contacts (not Google contacts) so I can edit them by hand, and then reimport them back into the device. I need something that can properly handle all the different contact fields. Something that can handle contact groups would be a big plus. I've tried numerous contact backup utils, and they all fail in one way or another (do not back up some fields, change order of fields, etc.).

What happened? I backed up all contacts using LG Backup, and then restored them. Unfortunately, LG Backup is buggy and when it restored the contacts, the order of all the phone numbers and addresses is mixed up (for contacts with more than one phone number or address). Now the contacts are a mess.

i use root explorer to open the contacts file saved by the contacts app. i long press on the contacts file and select open with > text editor. then edit it. not sure its a full fix for you but worth a try.

Thanks. I've played around with that, and it definitely has merit. Unfortunately, it does not save which group(s) to which each contact belongs.

BTW, when I first tried this technique, I single-pressed on the export file (in Root Explorer) instead of long-pressing on it. This caused the file to be instantly imported, which resulted in duplicates of everything. Do you know, in Root Explorer, how to define the single-press action for different file types?

have not found it yet myself, would be nice. shame there aren't better apps out there to do all you need concerning contacts. like an app to do grouping, save contact pictures in an inport format along with your contacts, etc.
