Lurker
My mom has had her galaxy s2 for about 3 months. Never had any problems. But now when the phone is locked the back light randomly turns on and off. Any suggestions or solutions to this problem?

I have a gs2 as well but never ran into this problem.

Same issue...this phone worked for 2 months without any issues...now for past 2 days...the backlight lits up itself randomly when locked eating up all the battery...

Also tried to use the power save mode...no go.......

can any one really help on this?????

I know some apps on the store that are free that do just this if you have a new message. Seen as a feature by those that liked having the notification LED that the SGS2 is lacking.

Look through that apps for any with System tools permissions for "modify global system settings, prevent phone from sleeping", I know these are a few of the permissions used by "Missed Message Flasher Free" that may be how they flash the screen.

I bought my phone as soon as it got out last year from UK amazon and it has been the best phone ever, I use custom kernels and firmware. About the back light starting by itself when you lock the phone manually or by time delay I would suggest you try the following which helped me in the past:

1) Lock Screen applications
2) Advanced Task Killer - frequency ("after screen turn off or every 30min")
3) Auto-brightness (manual or automatic).

My phone for 1 year made this back light problem 2-3 times every time I managed to deal with it when playing with the options in between the above 3 things.

Yesterday I placed the screen brightness to manual half strength and today the back light went crazy, after trying for couple of hours I finally decided to return to Auto Brightness and Now the back light and phone doesn't get unlocked by itself.

P.S. If those 3 don't assist, try -> settings -> Display -> play with all the menu's until this bug stops.

If this helps - press the thank you button :-)

Did you ever sort this problem out, having same trouble and not got a clue what else to try, dont really want to reset if possible.

Hi again, had lookout security and antivirus free addition on my phone, this was coming up to 5 days left before giving me the option to pay for upgrade, and having problems in the past on my pc when norton or mcafee are up for a upgrade, i have decided to uninstall the lookout app and so far so good.

This may or not be the reason, but as this morning everything on my phone was switching on ie wi-fi, gps, and my lock screen flashing on and off every so often.

So maybe if anybody else is having this problem, to have a look to see if you have any free apps that give you a free trial before offering you the chance to upgrade, this may or maynot be the problem,, but is another option to look at.

Hope this was helpfull.

One thing that you could check for is AirPush ads on your phone.

These are ad's that are downloaded to your phone automatically and the AirPush programme usually comes bundled in free app's or themes.

Developers use these AirPush ad's as a way of funding their free app's and you can usually buy a paid version that does not contain them.

They use a small amount of data to download these ad's to your phone and can cause wake ups.

To find out if you have any app's containing AirPush ad's you can download, free from the Play Store, AirPush Detector.

You can then run this app and it will identify which app's contain AirPush. You can then choose to either remove the app from your phone or upgrade to a non AirPush, paid version, if available.

Try in the "settings menu" , go to "wireless and network connections". After that "wifi settings". There make sure to uncheck the notification of open networks. Problem solved on my phone.

To Ironass :

Thanks a lot, your advice was very helpful for me. "Air Push Detector" worked well and fixed the screen back light problem. Thank again gentleman.

Same with me..touch key lights keep always off. I do it last night n I think this problem has been solved. It's not happen again since last night..

Hi. I understand ur frustration.....had that problem with my wildfire for more than a week and i was fed up.....in my case wat i had don was that i installed an app "beam reader" for readin ebooks but its not free so i downloaded a key a unlocked it.after a while i deleted the key to save space....and thats wen it started....as the key was deleted, the app(beamreader) detected the key was not there and i wen i opened it ,it asked me to buy the full version....i downloaded another reader....and left beam reader as it was, not knowing it was causing my mobile to light up in locked mode haphazardly, but as soon as i deleted the app,....no more freaky light ups!!!!! Try it....any app thats nagging u to buy it to unlock it, delete it....hope it helps.....do share ur results
