Help backup and restore

Getting ready to install a package disabler for longer battery life (and to get rid of "clutter") byt they all say make a backup of your system before running.

Fair enough. I have Backup and restore activated on my phone and supposedly (?) it stores those backups to my google account But Backup and Restore is like no backup program I am familiar with. I cannot locate the backups on my Google account (don't really know where to look), iy doesn't let me control what to back up or where to store it nor is there a dedicated Restore button / function. The upshot is that I am a little distrustful.

Can someone explain to me how it works and / pr assure me that it will work even though I don't have direct oversight?

So...this is the backup and restore app that I'm talking about:

If no one can tell me how to control what is being backed up or what is being restored, can anyone suggest a third party app that will allow me that control?

Seriously? 70+ views and no one has any thoughts or advice with regard to backup and restore?

Or was it something I said?

Google will backup all apps downloaded from the play store. Any settings for those apps will need to be reset. Google photos will backup automatically all of your images. But that's about all that backup and restore does, at least that is what happened for me. I also use Super Backup Pro, which saves my SMS, websites, contacts.

Thanks for your time. I was looking at Easy Backup but it's unclear how the restore function works. Seems like the app stores the backup in a zip file. I suppose that's fine as long as Easy Backup is used to restore.

I used Smart Switch to transfer my contacts from one phone to another...wirelessly and more or less flawlessly. So simple.

I guess I'd like a backup app that would give me the choice of what is backed up and the choice of what is restored.
