Backup Note 8.0 to flash drive?

In advance of a factory reset, I'd like to backup as much non-OS as I can to a flash drive or external SD card instead of some OTA, cloud service. This sounds like a simple process but I'd like to hear from the "experts" before attempting anything myself.

Yes...I have a micro USB OTG dongle and I've used it countless times to transfer files, documents, pictures, music, etc. to and from the tablet. Copying such files will be a snap but it's backing up the less obvious stuff like contacts list, browser and app settings, etc. that's not too clear to me.

What's my best bet?

There are backup programs like Helium that back just about everything up.

But I'd suggest at least one copy of the backup on a hard drive (and a second copy on the hard drive of another computer). When your only backup goes, you'll wish for a few more feet to kick yourself with.
