Backup SD Card Game Data

jorjdboss

Lurker
I bought a Sony Ericsson Neo V recently. The very first thing I did was buy Shadowgun. I noticed that the download size was about 6 MB but after installing and launching, it downloaded ~400MB. I also got Gameloft's Asphalt 6.

I want get a new micro SD card only for storing games/media(will plug out after use). I want to also use the factory shipped card for storing some apps/ themes/ wallpapers etc.

The stock 2GB card contains the 'additional' game data, how do I move only this to the new 16 GB card? I DONT want to duplicate the old card to the new card, nor do I want to download 1GB over again to the new card.

Anyone with a solution to this?

Greetings jorjdboss,

If you have a card reader connected to your computer, that would be the easiest way. Simply put the 2gig in the reader, navigate to the appropriate directory (I have no idea where these files are stored, you'll just have to look), then drag and drop it to the desktop, or folder of your choice. Replace the 2gig with the 16, then drag from the computer, to the 16.

If you don't have a memory card reader, you can still do this with your phone. Download the drivers for your phone from the manufacturer. With the 2gig in the phone, attach it to you computer. After the computer recognizes your phone, the directions are just like the card reader. Browse to the correct directory, then drag it to your computer.

Disconnect from your computer, and unmount the sd card from your phone. Unmount should be in the storage option of the phone settings. replace the 2gig with the 16. If you have not done so already, format the 16gig card. This option should also be in the storage option in phone settings.

Reconnect your phone to your computer. After the computer recognizes the phone, drag the folder from your computer over to 16 gig. Disconnect your phone from the computer. Unmount the 16 and remove it. Replace it with the 2 gig.

I tried that, didn't work, the game tries to download everything again. The download folder for the games are SD card\Android\data\

I uninstalled the game, followed your steps and then reinstalled and ran the game. I also tries another trick:
1. After fresh install of ShadowGun, I let it start downloading
2. I disabled WiFi, and the download stops and asks for Retry.
3. I copy all the files from Hard drive to SD card\Android\data\
4. Now I go back and press Retry
5. It still downloads from the beginning by deleting the files I copied.

This is so annoying! And if goes this way, how can I ever backup my games, since the backups wont work. I have to connect to the internet each time to download the same data multiple times!

Any more plausible solutions guys?

I solved it by using Titanium Backup Pro. Works like a charm now and I can switch my SD card and move the Apps around anytime. ;)
