Help Backup Text Messages before repair

OK, my Desire is one of the ones that has developed the rebooting fault, so I'm taking it to TMobile tomorrow to get the motherboard swapped, I have an old Sony C905 to use in the meantime, yes I'm going to be lost without it! lol

However, it will come back 'clean'. I know how to copy my contacts, the rest of the stuff I don't mind losing, but can anyone tell me of an app that will backup my text messages to the PC? I have many that I don't want to lose.

Why don't the manufacturers backups offer this? Surely they realise how important some messages are to us?

I was hoping mine would be one of the ones to escape the fault, but I guess not. I suppose I've been very lucky, in almost 20 years of owning mobile phones this is the first one to need repair.
 
Oh I have seen more than one review about this product that it failed to restore, any other suggestions?
