Help Bad Charger Port on Fascinate

yonsie

Lurker
Just curious if any of you Samsung Fascinate users have had this issue. I bought a Fascinate a little over a month ago at Best Buy and suddenly my phone doesn't recognize when the charger is hooked up to it (the normal audible beep and a visual verification of the battery icon showing it's being charged).

My wife and I each purchased the same phone, and while my phone does not work on my charger, her charger, or our car charger, her phone DOES on all three. So I'm thinking I have a lemon or something? It was sent out today for repair (thank god I chose the protection plan from Geek Squad). Unfortunately, it will take at least a week, and up to 4 weeks I was told. Looks like me and my old EnV3 are getting re-acquainted in the meantime.

Anyway, I thought I would throw this out to the forums (to officially document this problem) and we'll soon find out in the next six to 12 months whether this newly released phone will carry the baggage of this possibly reoccurring issue for other Fascinate users.:o

You could've just had Verizon ship you a 2-day replacement phone. Chances are good that's all that best buy will end up doing after about a month(or longer).

It's always a good idea to be a bit persistent with repair reps in stores, in my opinion. By that I mean to interrogate him or her as to their course of action: are they going to order a part (charging port), or are they going to order a replacement phone? .. etc, just so you'll know what's going on.

But before taking the device in with that issue, I'd have taken a couple of alcohol wipes to the charging port, and a Q-tip cotton swab soaked in rubbing alcohol, inside and out of the port area.. the terminals on the battery compartment and battery. Then some canned, compressed air blown around the port and case, being careful not to blow any into the screen areas.

Believe it or not, some techs do not know enough to clean some things that could be malfunctioning only due to being fowled up a bit.

Frisco,

I wish I would have posted my issue before before sending my phone in for repair. All that you suggested seems like it would have been good "due diligence" on my part. I hope there's not a "next" time for something like this in the future, but if there is, a little McGyver work wouldn't hurt. Thanks for the tip!
