Bad idle battery drain

Is any one still having this problem I'm at 25% and with 24 minutes of on screen time 7 hours on battery any one have any answers on this..thanks

What are the battery stats showing? There are a lot of discussions on the G+ communities about battery usage, mostly the Android OS consumption.
Some days my battery is great and others, well, not so much.

And that's the odd thing. My battery life is still good and will last a day, but at idle, Android OS takes up as much as 40%, at times.

I've been able to manipulate it somewhat with location settings, but it seems to be hit or miss. On my other Android devices (just took a look at the Nexus 10), I can leave on wifi location, and Android OS only amounts to about 6% (though it is on 4.3).

Lambertoid,

So you've only seen your battery life go that fast twice, in conjunction with Android OS being high?

Can you post your battery stats, including Android OS/Display?

Download BetterBatteryStats and see if NLPWakelocks are running for partial wakelocks.

If so, it's the location services causing high AndroidOS usage. On Reddit/XDA people have said there may be some bug where the location settings toggle won't work if you let google access your location when you first activated your phone. Try the following:

1) Go to Settings>Apps>All>Google Play Services and do some combination of disable, clear data and cache, install updates, and enable again.

2) If you don't need Google Now for location access (weather, navigation suggestions, etc) Go to Settings>Google>Location Settings and turn off "Let Google apps access your location". This should completely stop NLP wakelocks and your Android OS usage should be really low.

3) If you don't want Google Now to be nerfed, this is what I personally did. I still get high Android OS usage, but it's not nearly as bad as before.

i. go to your apps>Google Settings>Android Device Manager and turn off "remotely locate this device" (I don't plan on losing this phone, and others have reported this causes the wakelock)

ii. Back in Google Settings, go to Location and turn off location reporting and location history.

After doing these things, Google Now still functions with location access (I'm not sure if it's partially nerfed, but it's good enough), and my Android OS usage is far less than before. NLP Wakelocks used to run ~20% of the time, and now it's down to about 3-5% (5 min of wakelocks after 2 hours on my phone).

I think my battery life increased from about 16 hrs with 3 hrs of screen time to about 24-26 hrs with 3 hrs of screen time (Wifi 95% of the time, terrible service throughout the day)

Hope that helps!

I will have to give all of that a try but today I had no issues at all in at 64%right now.. So the day it does I will post a screen shot of the good and bad day but to then if this happens to any one keep this thread going and post what's going on

This will happen if you have a weak signal, as the OS tries to work harder to maintain the connection.

It also varies based on how many devices are competing for signal, and/or how many WiFi networks are cluttering the same channel.

/Happens to any and every phone FWIW.

I have no idea about that app, but WalmartSecurity's suggestions are good work-arounds to reduce battery usage.

The app is just a way of telling you if you phone is suffering from wake locks and what not. It gives you more detailed information to make the changes to help your battery life.

Oh I forgot to metion that if you are seeing this problem at home with battery drain you might try a WiFi Analyzer and see what channels are crowded.

WiFi should be on channels 1, 6, or 11 (I think). This is set in your WiFi router/AP. Usually leaving it set to autop is fine, but if everyone in your 'hood is on channel 11, you should try channel 1, if everyone is on channel 6, try 1 or 11 (etc).

Dont use other channels and overlap, just stick to those three but pick the least congested one.

Change Your Wi-Fi Channel Number to Avoid Interference

I'm experiencing significant drain on my HTC One, my work reception is horrible as you can see from the attached image, the only reason it's the graph isn't steeper is due to the fact that I now turn off mobile data when I'm not using the phone.
Also the phone skips a couple of percentage points occasionally as you can see from the chart attached.
I'm just curious to know if these are common issues people deal with, and how to rectify them, thanks.

Oh shoot, I realize after browsing this thread on the Web, that it's a forum for the Moto X, but I'd be grateful to know if you guys experience the same network related and battery issues!
