Help Basic Installation Question

I'm new to the Android world and I've noticed that when I install an app, it generally warns me that it's going to need access to various parts of the system, like Contacts or whatever. To the right of each item is a V shape that initially points down but if I click on the V, it inverts and points up (or was it the other way around)?

I assume that this is a Yes/No Allow/Disallow toggle but I'm darned if it is clear which is Yes/Allow and which is No/Disallow. Could anyone enlighten me?

You cannot allow or disallow individual permissions. Either you accept them all, or you don't install the app. Installing it will automatically give the app all the permissions listed there.

Vlad, I assume you're right but why does clicking on the V (or inverse V) change the direction of the V? That feels like you're toggling something. Why would they let you toggle something if it's going to be accepted anyway?

I don't have my phone at hand right now to check this, but I believe clicking on a V should open a box displaying a short explanation of the respective permission, or possibly individual components of that particular permission. Then you'd optionally use the upside down V to close that box.

V = down arrow, means expand view of listing, aka, show.

^ = up arrow, collapse expanded view back to default, aka hide.

It's a viewer control, typically used on websites, nothing more.

And it must be device specific, I'm not seeing that in my Play Store listings on my phone.

Individual app permissions are coming in Android M, HTC owners won't see it until probably February or March of next year (it's not out yet).

I don't see it either but I'm guessing it's my theme making it black on black because it performs the action when I touch where it should be :thumbsupdroid:
