Basic question........

Violator31

Newbie
Probably VERY basic.
My last phone was a Blackberry. When I bought it there was a disc that came along. The new HTC did not.
I can't seem to be able to create folders in my "Gallery". So I want to hook it up to my PC and do it that way.
I can hook it up & unhook it without shutting the phone off, correct?
In Vista, I need to click on "Safely remove hardware" and then just unplug it, correct?
I know this makes me sound like a complete idiot, but I'm just leary about screwing up the phone.

Thank you.

Yes its safer to safely remove. Treat it the same as any other removable media device.

The gallery picks up folders that contain images on the sd card. DCIM is for camera pictures. If you also had an sd folder called jokes with pictures in it, the gallery will have a folder of the same name.

You can create folders on sd via pc, but you can also install a file manager such as estrongs file explorerand do it with that.

OK, so I hooked it up to the pc...and....nothing.
I tried;
settings
connect to pc
default connection type
--------------
there are 5 choices here =
#1 charge only
2 HTC sync
3 disc drive
4 USB tethering
5 internet pass-through
----------
I tried #2, & 3.
Nothing.
It was charging the battery though.

# Three is your choice. You will want to set the phone to emulate a disk drive. Then connect it to your PC. You will then have your PC go through it's gyrations of managing a newly connected removable disk. You can then browse to your phone's storage and SD storage to create folders, move and copy files, etc. Have fun.

OK I figured some of it out. Part of the problem was, I was using the same cable/usb port as I was with the Blackberry. I fixed that & now I can get into this phone.
I went to the DCIM folder (which is the memory card, right?) and I created folders for my pix.
Hit the ol' "safely remove hardware" - went into my "gallery" & NO FOLDERS.
It's not like I NEED them, but, when I'm showing someone some pix, maybe they don't want to see ALL of them.
Kind of a pain.

Did you put pictures in the new folders already? Once you put pictures in the folders, next time the gallery does a,scan of the sdcard it will pick them up.

There's so many levels down, I believe it won't pick up the folders. I forget what it is. Think its 3. So /sdcard/folder1/folder2 would be picked up but not any folders in folder2... unless its changed

I did put the pix in the folders.
I went into the card where the photos were. Created a folder, and dragged the photos into it.
This morning I thought it might help to restart the phone. Nothing changed. Still no folders. It doesn't make sense to me.

It will pick it up next scan.

Try and unmount and remount your sd card via the storage menu

Problem solved!!!
I don't know why it has to be like this, but.............
I downloaded "QuickPic" and right away all of the folders are there.
Thank you very much for all the help.
