Battery Adjustments

Now that I've had my Maxx 2 months I'm noticing a bit of a battery adjustment. For reference sake, I am a teacher. I take my phone off of charge every morning at 7:30 a.m. I am on wifi until I leave my home at 8:00. My drive to work is 20 minutes from 8:20-3:50 I am on wifi in my classroom. My screen is rarely on because I have MotoConnect. Any text messages that I get I answer from my laptop on my desk. At 3:50 I get in the car for the 20 minute drive home. Once I am at home, I am on wifi until around 11:00 at night when I go to bed and plug in my Maxx.

I leave on EVERYTHING all the time, which is the point of having a Maxx IMHO. By everything I mean BT, GPS, 4G, brightness on auto, and wifi.

When I plug in at night I am usually at around 30%-40% left on battery.

I've followed that same usage patter and set of circumstances everyday Monday-Friday since August when I bought my Maxx. In the past 30 days I've noticed a dip in my battery. When I first bought it I would have 50%-60% of my battery left. It's been slowly slipping.

Anyone else noticing this adjustment?

Mine is basically exactly the same. I end up around 55-60 percent when I go to bed after 17-18 hours of use when I am mostly on WiFi, and between 40-50 percent when I'm on mobile data most of the day. I'm probably running more things now, too - Plume with livestream mode rather than polling, for example. I've installed PocketCasts since I first bought the phone, as well as Tapatalk, and Feedly, and Pocket.

I still think Google Now uses a lot of energy. Android OS is usually by far my highest battery user, and it usually has over an hour of Wakelocks (mostly for NlpCollectorWakeLock and NlpWakeLock, split about 50/50.)

I've noticed a dip -- I wouldn't be surprised if it was 30% -- since purchase. I chalk it up to the apps I've installed (mostly), and maybe some battery degradation.

I'm still at 30% most days when I plug in, and expect that this battery will stay "healthy" far longer than any other I've used, only because it's not constantly being fed by a charger.

I also agree that my battery life is somewhat off. Like everyone else in this thread, I attribute it to a couple of new apps that are listening a lot: Llama, a handful of widgets, etc. Once or twice in the months I've had it I've felt the need to plug it in, but mostly I resist the urge and all is well.

I notices one day it dropped more, but found Verizon Messages to be active for the whole day, I was using that on both my phone and tablet, need less to say I have uninstalled it and have been watching the battery, we will see how it goes for the next month or so.

I am very pleased with my Maxx, I unplug it around 5:45am go to,work, leave it on 4G with no wifi, GPS is off. I use the phone a few times during the day while in meetings to check emails or to look stuff up on web. I drive. Home and plug it in around 5pm and usually have 85% or more left. I love these phone it sips battery so little. Yesterday I was 4 hours off charge and had a one hour phone call, did surfing and emails for about an hour and still had 95% left. My first Droid was a Charge and that thing drained battery just looking at it. My last phone was RAZR MAXX and while that was great the Droid Maxx is far better.

your cell service is pretty bad. why is your device awake throughout the day? i'd say those are your two problems. you can atleast fix one of them.

I wouldn't think that my cell service should be bad. I live in a large suburb of
Cincinnati. There are towers EVERYWHERE.

As for being awake, not sure why it's awake.

My battery life seems to be good still, after almost two months of ownership. I'm not a power user but I do leave 4G, GPS, BT on all the time along with apps like Google Now and Llama running. Granted Llama only launches profiles at certain times but it is running. Some days on light use I have 70% remaining; most days I have between 60 - 65% left. If I have over 60% left I don't charge it at night. Most of the time I get almost 2 days between charges. Example unplug Monday morning and I don't plug it in until Tuesday night.

Just FYI, Llama doesn't just look for profiles - it also tracks changes to the cell tower you are connected to. It somehow doesn't use a lot of battery power for that, but it's not just sitting idle.

I thought that was something that is only valid if you turn it on? I tried that once and didn't like the results so I just created time-based profiles that work perfectly. No big deal of course; just making sure I don't misunderstand.

If you look at the last column in llama (sorry, I don't recall the name, as I don't have it installed on this phone), it will have a list if all of the cell towers that you're phone has connected to, probably with an unknown location tag. It can be useful to tag the ones that are home locations for actions such as toggling WiFi on, etc., but even without those sorts of profiles or events, llama still keeps track.

This is why leaving your phone plugged in all night to a so called smart charger is not good.

I've left my maxx plugged in overnight once. Only charge it to 100% once every few weeks. Most of the time I top it off from 20 to 90.

I'm sure many will disagree with this but I believe charging habits still matter.

After unrooting and going back to stock then installing the update my phones battery life has drastically improved. I'm not sure if it's because I had a rogue app that was causing the drain (I did a full wipe) or if it was root that was the cause or what, but I can tell you that it's performing (so far) as it did when I took it out of the box.

Interesting. I've had the update for a few days, and did not factory reset. Battery life is consistent with what I had before - neither better nor worse.
