Help Battery Charged, Then Not, Then Charged

I am presuming this is a KitKat question, and not an Edge-specific question.

I have had my Note Edge for a few days.

When I plug it in to charge, the LED is red; when it charges, the screen lights, it beeps, and the LED goes green.

QUESTION 1 - How do I make it so it doesn't light up and beep???!?

Then, later, I'll look over and see that the LED is red. Then when it gets to green, the screen lights, the phone beeps... Well, you get the drill!

QUESTION2 - So what's it doing? Stopping charging when it gets to 100, then slowly draining, and then starting to charge again?

I use my phone for my alarm clock - so it's on my nightstand. This behavior is annoying me, and my wife is about to kill me.

Turning the phone to "Silent" isn't an option - I need to hear calls and texts that come in overnight.

Any help would be appreciated.

This isn't a Kit Kat issue as none of the devices I have running KK do this.

As such, I'll move this to the Edge forum and the guys there should be able to help.

Question 2 is a general phone thing.

When your phone is fully charged, safety circuitry cuts off the charger and it runs on the battery until the factory preset is hit - often around 96% - and the process repeats. Laptops do this as well.
