Battery conditioning question

If you use your phone and charge it at the same time, the battery will heat up which reduces the life of the battery. It gets hot because it is doing double duty, running a phone app (your music, etc.) and being charged.
What I do is use the phone until the battery is partially discharged. Then I swap a freshly charged battery and put the partially discharged battery in an AC charger.
