Help Battery indicator says 100% but no power

Pulsator

Lurker
Hi all

I have what was is termed a Superpad 3 clone.

Until recently is has worked flawlessly having been rooted to Tim's D rom.

I now have a major problem involving the battery which started a couple of weeks back. I charged the unit over night as I intended taking it with me on a trip. This should have resulted in a fully charged battery.

When I removed the charger and pressed the power button, nothing happended; no power.

I connected the charger and was able to power on. The charge light (green on my SP3) lights up. On checking the battery status I get 100% charged.

I tried calibrating but this has not worked most likely because the battery is not actually charged at all.

Anyone experienced this as I am pulling my hair out and the seller won't respond to my emails for assistance.

Thanks

Sounds like you have a duff battery. If it was me i would open the FT3 and try charging it using a separate lipo charger to discover if its the battery or the charging circuitry that is at fault. How old is the tablet? Under warranty still?
You state you have tried re-calibrating the charge meter? how did you do this?

Hi

It should be under warranty as it was only purchased April of this year. I bought it on Ebay. The seller had all the blurb about after sales but they have not responded to any of the emails I have sent them.

Regarding calibration. I downloaded a battery calibrator from the Android market and ran this. I think it just deleted a file but not sure if it actually ran checks on the battery.

lipo charger?

Tuff one.

Last resort if seller is not willing to help you is to see if you can file a chargeback dispute with your credit card company.

I think this is good advice...if they wont talk to you on ebay.

The calibration utility just deletes the data file kept for the battery.. it wont re-calibrate the meter, you have to go through several charge/discharge cycles to re-build the data file, ans as your battery appears duff you will struggle to do that!

The battery is actually a Li-Po battery, it requires a specific charge routine. you must use a battery charger specifically made for Li-Po batteries, the charging circuitry inside the flytouch handles the charging for the internal battery but if you take the battery out of the flytouch you will have to use an external lipo charger.... there are plenty around, but not many charge a single cell (1s) which is what the battery in a 5volt Flytouch is - well it is actually two cells but they are connected in parallel so they appear as a single cell to the charger (1s2p)

Have you tried reflashing? I can't guarantee it will work, but I had a similar issue where a pad would immediately power down and say 5% on the battery after a 24 hour charge. Cyclic charging and deleting the batterystats.bin did nothing. Just for giggles I reflashed Tim's ROM and that fixed it. Not sure what could possibly have gotten corrupted or broke that could have caused this.

Well, the reflashing didn't work :(

Anyone know where I can get a replacement battery in the UK?

Also, can I upgrade from the 3800mah in this thing or do I have to put a like for like replacement?

Thanks

Just ensure you know the specs of the battery you want because there are two different batteries out there for the FT3 -
If the charger is 5 volts output you want a 3.6 volt 6400mAh Li-Po battery
If the charger is 9 volts output you want a 7.4 volt 3200mAh Li-Po battery

Not sure about a UK source for these batteries...better chance of getting one from china.. try Chinagrabber.... or ebay
