Help Battery issue?

I used my tablet yesterday and it was fine but the battery was getting low so I charged it as usual so I would have a full battery in case I needed it while away from home today. I didn't use it at all, and when I came home and turned it on, it said 88% battery life left. BUT it keeps turning off saying it's less than 10%. Before I can plug it in, it turns itself off. I can't be tied to a charger. What gives with this message and its actions???

I only use wifi. I do not have a plan. I bought it from the AT&T store about 6 months ago, and I canceled the data plan I originally had because it was not reliable, so I don't want to have to go back to the store with it. Does the tablet have a replaceable battery? If so, any idea how much it costs? I don't know if the battery is the issue or something else, but I rely on my tablet for a lot of things. Anyone have any ideas???

I do not have it rooted...not even sure what that means. Whatever it was, it fixed itself after I fully charged it overnight and it has been working since. Go figure!

What is rooted anyway? Does that have something to do with the fact that when I plug it in to my computer I can only see files on the tablet or phone itself but not the one on the sd card??? I wanted to copy some files between tablet and computer and vice versa but the files are on my sd card and could not see them to copy them. What would I have to do to see/copy files to/from the sd card? Unmount the sd card and insert into to my comouter??? I even tried a file manager app but still couldn't swap files.
