Help Battery issues

Hi all,

Just got the HTC One X. It is such a great phone except for the battery. Got it on Thursday. After using it for a few days now, with I would consider general use. The battery is going flat very quickly. I am needing to put it on charge a few times throughout the day.
For example today, was fully charged. Took it off charge at 9am. by 12 it was already down to 60%. I used it a few times during that time. Surfed the web on wifi, checked facebook, sent a couple text messages and made a short phone call.
I have syncing on for a couple of items but nothing major like facebook feed.

My previous phone was HTC Incredible S and I would get a good day out of that without fail.

Just wondering if other uses are finding this as well or if this is just my unit.

Bought in australia using Optus.

That's not normal battery use and not what I've been getting.

Turn off all auto syncing, go through all your apps settings and make sure that nothing is syncing in the background.

Then you can tell if you have a faulty battery, you can turn on syncing for certain apps one at a time then.

Turn of Fast Boot in Settings > Power.

Turn off Auto Brightness, make sure that your WiFi goes to sleep when your screen is off.

There's more battery saving tips that I can't think of right now.

Charge the phone to 100%, let it drain to 0%, do this a few times and then your battery should start to calibrate itself.

Wow....I also bought mine on thursday from Optus in Australia!
Mine was also running out of battery for the first day or 2 but seems to be better now.
The first night, I turned it off and did a full charge over night and that seemed to help.
Try turning things off when not using them such as Wi-fi and bluetooth. I changed my weather widget to a smaller one and I think that may have helped. I looked at what is using the most battery power and the screen was using heaps of battery so having less things using power should help.

Are you having any Wi-fi problems? I'm finding that mine keeps dropping in and out of connection to my wi-fi. It's driving me nuts.

Thanks for responding. I'll keep an eye on the battery usage.

I've had no problems at all with wifi. At home I'm using an old belkin g router.

Have you been having any other issues?
I've noticed today that I've got a dead pixel.
Also I'm having trouble with contacts using Facebook profile pictures. But this is in non htc apps like go sms pro.

No, don't seem to have any other issues. I'm using a fairly new Netgear router and no matter what I do to the settings, it hasn't helped. Going back to the store tomorrow to see if they can help.

Ahh interesting. Well good luck nikki. Keep us posted

Welcome to AF! :)

In addition to the suggestions Gibbs has provided, when you check out the Battery Stats screen (Settings -> Power -> Battery Use), then click the graph, does the blue/white bar underneath "Awake" look roughly the same as the Screen on time, or is is there more blue underneath awake than screen on?

Thank you to everyone for their responses.
After going into the battery usage it showed that the screen was 50% but the next item was HTC media server which was 10%. So I have now turned that off.
Going to keep an eye on things tomorrow and see how it goes.
Reckon I will still contact the optus store about the dead pixel and see if they will change it over under ELF.
Will post how I go.

Just spoke to the store, said that if they can replicate the problem then they will swap it over.
Which the dead pixel is right there so will be able to see it. Won't have time till Thursday to go in.

As for the battery, been keeping an eye more on it today and it seems to be a bit better. I'm at 60% now. Took it off charge at 8am. Done a bit of surfing the net and been playing music through headphones for 3 hours

Running from a full charge
Time running so far-3hrs.22mins
Battery life down to 32%
Screen is using the most-62%
auto brightness off, only up 1 notch
auto-sync off
screen timeout-15secs
Only browsing the net.

What I want to know is would i be better in swopping it for the galaxy note as it has a bigger battery?

That's pretty good. I think that they get better with time.
Mine's still going ok after 2 days without charging.

I found the problem with my Wifi....it's needs to be upgraded but I'm finding that I cant get it to upgrade so handing the computer and modem over to my computer store to try and do it for me. Finger's crossed after the upgrade it works fine. :)

Let us know how you go on thursday.

just out of curiosity, have you tried setting your router to only transmit a wireless G signal instead of G and N?

I know that some of the older netgear routers had problems with transmitting N class wireless over anything but a very small distance (had the issue with 3 of the netgears I got from sky whan I was with them).

maybe worth a shot. If that fails try connecting to the wifi round a mates for a while and see if you get the same thing. Should point to where the problem is.

I swear I read somewhere that the on x had great wifi range detectiona nd throughput somewhere.

Whoa, 15sec screen timeout. I would find that very annoying.

My router only gives ne the option to select d&g so it is set to that.

But, I realised today that my parents have the exact same router that I do so I checked to see if my phone would connect ok to their's and what'ya know.....perfect connection!
So, I checked their settings and there were 2 things set different, the channel was set to 6 and the WPA-PSK security option was set to mixed. I went home and changed mine to that but still no luck. I called my Dad and asked him to check the firmware version and sure enough, it is newer version than mine. So I'm guessing that is the reason.
I tried to upgrade it myself but the netgear page with the download couldn't be displayed so I'm leaving it in the hands of my local computer tech. He's the one I got the rouet from in the first place so hopefully he'll know how ot upgrade it.

Thanks boss, ive un-installed the task killer app and ive just installed watchdog light,i will run my mob 2moz from full charge and see how long it lasts, its only a week old so if no better it will go back,im thinking of getting the note, good or bad?
I have to say that after having an HTC desire and a galaxy S2 this is the worst mob for battery hogging lol and it makes it worse that the battery is non removalable because i cant standat a socket while it charges because the battery levels drops off so quick, thanks again boss.

No problem, keep us posted as to how you get on. :)

My first representative working day for my HTC One X and my battery usage has been excellent and much better than my HTC Desire HD which I didn't even use today but had with me for comparison.

After 15 hours on battery I am on 48%.

I noticed that there was no discernible battery drain during longer sleep periods when receiving approx 112 emails but not necessarily responding as I use my desktop for that. The battery usage graph was flat during these periods.

As far as I can tell the battery lasts longer if I have a good 3G mobile internet signal as compared to using WiFi which seems to drain the battery faster. I also ensure that WiFi is turn off best WiFi performance although it is on during sleep.

Overall

I reckon mine would last if i never used it lol but mine gets used heavy 5 times a week,i use at least 7-9gb a month on my mob as I've got unlimited data,so my screen can be constantly on for hours and the internet is,I never need to ever use wi-fi.

[Oh, hang on.......not the real Madonna
Erm just having a quick look in the mirror?nope lol.
