Help Battery issues

Well at least it's not just me, was wondering if I had a faulty unit.

Also noticed last night I had Google Music on for a good hour and a half, maybe a little more and the battery on used around 4-5% where as on the Desire, the same amount of usage would drain anywhere between 15-20%. Can't complain about that, if the usage is showing correctly.

I noticed it gets to 99% and stays there while charging for a while. I basically just wait until the LED light turns green before unplugging it.

I've had my One X (Optus Australia version) for 2 days, love the phone but very concerned about the battery performance.

Charged my phone overnight and left the house this morning at around 8am. Listened to the FM radio for about 30 mins, then some streaming audio for about 20mins over 3G. Arrived at work with >80% remaining, the occasional use of email / facebook / twitter / surfing. Connected to Wifi while at work (wifi remains enabled when sleeping).

At one point I noticed the phone was very hot in my pocket, not sure what app was causing this... any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

My settings are: Wifi on, GPS off, auto screen brightness, Auto-sync off.
Here's my battery stats:

13% remaining after 4hr 16m.

Screen: 39%
Android OS: 22%
Mediaserver: 16%
Wi-fi 6%
Cell standby 5%
Phone idle 4%
ABC 3%
Android System 3%
....

also... i have auto-sync disabled, and yet the phone is still retrieving email / facebook updates. is this some sort of push service i have enabled, or can any app override this global setting?

I also have a Optus Australia branded One X and I was really concerned about the battery life when I first got mine too.
Now I get great battery life and only charge it every 2nd day and I still have about 20-30% left by then.
You will find that with time, it will get better. I've had mine for a month now.
What I did do which I think helped was, I let my battery run right down until it went completely flat and turned the phone off, Then I left the phone off and charged it overnight. I've done that a couple of times now and the battery usage has been great. Hope this helps.

That's good to know... I've actually noticed an improvement today already. 5+ hours of heavy usage and still over 50%. I suspect that yesterday one of my apps got hung up and was chewing the battery for a few hours.

Welcome to AF! :)

In addition to the suggestions Gibbs has provided, when you check out the Battery Stats screen (Settings -> Power -> Battery Use), then click the graph, does the blue/white bar underneath "Awake" look roughly the same as the Screen on time, or is is there more blue underneath awake than screen on?

hi my friends phone kept going flat within hours and we noticed a constant blue line under "screen on" and "awake" in the battery history. my phone did not have a constant blue line under either and the battery has worked just fine. however today when i noticed the phone was dead i plugged it in and switched it on the history showed a constant blue line under both and the graph looked like a stock market crash (except it was a straight line). both phones are telstra htc one xl's. what causes the screen on and awake to be constantly on?

Hi there and welcome to the forums!

The only thing that should cause your screen on to stay on should be if your screen is constantly on. This can cause pretty significant battery drain.

As far as awake goes, this is a little bit trickier. Some apps are poorly coded and can cause a device to wake lock (where the processor doesn't get a chance to go to sleep, reported as "awake" on your battery monitor). Other things, including music/video playback and GPS navigation as well as background data syncing, can also cause wake locks (these are usually considered justified because without it your device wouldn't be able to do what it needs to).

I would recommend getting a more advanced battery monitoring app from the play store (I use GSAM Battery Monitor and I would link to it if I had a computer handy, but it's in the play store) and checking that if you continue to encounter this issue. GSAM can provide very precise battery usage stats among apps and tell you what things are wake locking your device.

Good luck and let us know what you find out!
