Help Battery jumps from 100% to 22%

Today my wife took her phone off the charger and it jumped from 100% to 34%
When I looked at the battery widget, it said it had been discharging from 100% since 5:42 AM (this was about 9:00) am when it went off the charger.

I confirmed when you put it back on it gets the lightning bolt but within a second or two it says 100% and plays the little sound when it's charged.

I powered off and let it sit for a few minutes at the charging screen and then powered back on. It then said 22% and is still doing this.

She was on the the charger from my LG spectrum which is a 1000ma charger and the battery widget did say (AC) when on it, so we tried her kindle charger which I sometimes use on my old Fascinate or Spectrum and it said AC also.

Battery usage said screen 34% but it has been off and that was the highest usage thing.

I wonder if the battery is crapping out?

Probably is the battery crapping out, but I have had weird issues charging both my HTC Incredible 2 and my Stratosphere with an original LG charger for some reason (battery gets hot, says it's fully charged when it isn't, and the USB cable doesn't work to connect to a PC), it actually destroyed my original battery in the HTC and I had to replace it (actually just complained to VZW and they replaced it free) so I would try a stock Samsung, HTC, or Motorola charger, they have all worked for me just fine. Also, Sam's Club sells some really nice car and home chargers for under $10, been using them for a while and they just work.

If the battery seems to work fine, just show the incorrect amount of charge, the batterystats file could be corrupted... if you are rooted you can use this app to reset it or do a factory reset.

my gf has had battery issues like this since the first day she got the phone.. verizon says it is functioning "normally"

Then all VZW support did was brush you off... this is not normal at all and I have never heard of anyone else with any phone that this is considered normal. I would never have accepted that as an answer and would at the very least demand a new battery or a warranty replacement of the phone.

Now, if this phone is rooted or has a custom ROM -AND- the phone is holding a charge normally (battery/charger issues have been eliminated and it can be used "normally" for a full day without a charge) then it sounds like the Battery Calibration file is corrupted and it can be deleted via CWM Recovery or the Battery Calibration app from the Play Store (root is required) and the OS will rebuild it automatically with proper calibration for the battery.

Same issue here. Not my personal phone, so I didn't really believe him when he told me what was going on. But seeing that is happening to other people to adds to his credibility.

On the phone with VZW now, we'll see how they handle it.
