Help battery life & contract issue with Open Etna

can anyone tell if the battery life on Open Etna has improved than having "rogers bloatware 1.5/1.6" ? i'm tempted to try it out (2.1 or 2.2) but i still have 1 yr left on my contract. my lg warranty period is over so trying that out at my own risk as may make a brick phone with my luck. also will Open Etna resume with rogers contract 3g signal?

Hi largecharge,
I bought my Eve on Kijiji so it didn't matter as much for me. I am happy with OpenEtna. I rooted my phone first to remove the bloatware and then felt quite confident and went ahead with the custom ROM. I have had rare occasions where it has just shut down unexpectedly but overall it's wonderful.

As far as the battery - well it is good as long as I pay attention and keep the bluetooth and wifi off along with any other stuff running in the background that I don't need. I use System Panel Lite to turn stuff off and it's wonderful overall.

Good luck with your decision.

When compared to latest V10i version (still Android 1.5) for european GW620, Open Etna has much better battery life. Previously I needed to recharge almost daily, but now I can go 2-3 days without recharging. There has not been a single crash yet with Open Etna, which is also an improvement since the official firmware. For me, the biggest drawback is the 3Mp camera. With proper back-ups, you can go back to your old firmware.
