Help Battery life isn't NEARLY what I expected.

My usage today:

14h 34m on battery, down to 40% when I plugged back in.

Display 32% (2h 18m)
Android OS 19% (32m 5s)
Phone Idle 8% (12h 16m)
Cell Standby 7% (14h 34m)
Voice Calls 7% (6m 29s! WTF?)
Dolphin Browser 6% (10m 6s)
...

This doesn't seem like even close to what I expected from a 3300 MAh battery. I have read about people getting something like 8 hours of screen-on time. My brightness is turned down to around 25% ... yet if I wanted to use my phone a whole lot longer than I did today, I wouldn't be able to.

I just got my phone yesterday and that's better than the stats I'm getting. I've been reading that it gets better after a few days, which I'm really hoping for. I unplugged at 11am with 100%, and at 8pm I was at like 35%. Screen on time was only like 2 hours. My Galaxy S2 with the stock battery was actually slightly better than that. But I'm not jumping to conclusions yet, I'll give it about a week to impress me. I run my phone at full everything, 100% screen brightness, 4g all day, background syncing, wi-fi and all that.

It does get better with use, but I found if you set it up to use wifi at home/work, it immediately gets crazy battery life. Pretty sure it depends on how often it has to search for 3G/4G towers. Smart actions and turning the screen down a bit help, but nothing as dramatic as wifi.

What are people's thoughts on using Juice Defender? Does using that help since every time I activate my screen it looks for the 4g tower? Based on the logic im reading one of the main drainers is locking into a tower.

What was it like on your other past 3 charges?

3 full charges, then report on battery. Everything else is inconsequential.

I usually get 30 or so hours before I have to charge. Thats with gps on and Mobile recovery checking for the phones location. Using a few smart actions and little brightness. Best ive had with regular use, texting, and internet a bit, was 60 hours with 30 percent battery left. Was pretty amazed about that. Seems to be speratic tho.

A family member of mine, so far they are 2 days 19 hours 48 minutes on battery and they are at 60%. in no way are they a power user so these numbers might seem a little odd but I think that is impressive for a phone to do this, a 4g phone with a big screen

3g only and wifi will help *a lot*, but overall I can get a full days use with 4g on. hopefully there will eventually be a 4g toggle widget

I have no idea how they're coming up with 20+ hours of talk time though.

Its called 4G Toggle and its in the Market

We rec'd 4 razr maxx phones last week.

3 of us easily finishing the nite out with 60% left on battery.

1 of us barely getting to the end of business without having to charge up.

phone gets very hot and running about 41 degrees C.

small percentage of phones are doing this. they have to be replaced.
soft start, hard start batt pull, wipe none works..

this is with 4g always on and in my case bluetooth always on.

also on the one phone google maps ran all the time in background. even when force stopped it would try to restart, the 3 other phones did not

I have fairly close % as you (with 2h 44m 58s screen time though) and I'm at 40% right now with 1d 5h 19m. I use wifi at home and 4G on campus during day.

I wanna add a side note that while at work last night a guy plops down his white Razr on the counter. I say how do you like the Razr? He says he wish he knew about the Razr Maxx sooner so that he could get the better battery and he shows me the battery bar in the red. I didn't show him my Maxx battery, but it was only a couple notches down on the battery, so about 60%. And he said that his was unplugged in the morning (as was mine). I did not want to rub it in.

I'm lurking around the maxx area because I think I want one.

BTW on battery life. With the DX (and most other devices) you have to recalibrate the battery monitor.

Basically you have to use the phone till it shuts down. Then charge up, and do it again. Since the device basically has to learn the battery (all batteries are a bit different). This allows the meter to be more accurate. And the meter, throttles the phone based on the percentage. (again this is what the DX did, I assume the RAZR would too).

So maybe you should try letting it run to shutdown mode.

It uses batterystats just like your DX. Hence the rule of thumb... charge 3 times before reporting... same goes when you flash a new rom.

I finally decided to plug mine in yesterday after logging 36 hours on battery and hitting 50%. To me that is absolutely freaking amazing since my EVO would die every day after about 10 hours max. Not good on 12 hour shifts.

My typical scenario has been mostly texts and 4 or 5 calls less than 5 minutes, checking email several times per day and some browsing and reading the news. 4G and GPS are turned on, And of course, a few token games of solitaire on down time.

I should have written down the stats but it looked like wifi was the biggest user of energy followed by the screen (which I have set at auto-brightness).

Compared to what I had previously, this phone is awesome so far.

Battery life is usually relative to the user. I just knew it would be alot better than any other phone and it absolutely is.
Get me thru the day is all I ever need and it does. This battery def meets my expectations.
Very happy with it. :)
