Help Battery Life Issue

Lurker
Hi all. Let me first say that the Galaxy s6 edge is my first Android phone in about 4 years. When the iPhone 4s came out, I jumped to it and had every iPhone since that until the 6. I had an opportunity to get a new phone and I was getting the feeling that ios is just too simple. So that's why I'm back in the Android ballgame.

Now on to my problem. I got the phone on June 16th. Ever since then the phone has experienced horrible battery life. A perfect example: I unplugged the phone in the middle of the night when it was at 100%. That was around 2, I believe. At 9 when I woke up, it was at 77%! I have no idea why though. It may have to do with what I'm running. And here's what I'm running:

I have the T-Mobile s6 edge with 5.1.1.

Smart lock: trusted places
WiFi calling on
WiFi on
My pebble connected to it (so obv BT is also on)
Auto sync on
Location on.

There are the settings I had turned on when I was asleep. While I know they'll use some battery, I don't believe they should be using 23% of it.
Any help will be grateful. Thank you!

There is a bug that seems to be affecting the Samsung devices battery drain especially on the Lollipop OS. Supposedly there is a patch in the works but in the mean time there are a few things you can do to help conserve the battery, especially when the phone is not in use. There are some good write ups on this topic on the XDA forms that explaining this in detail and will try post a link shortly but in the meantime here are few tips that should help conserve the battery.

As with any Android phone the Sync and Location services will use some battery and it is always an option to turn these off especially at night or when charging the device. You can also change settings per app and refresh/sync manually to help stop some background services from using the auto sync function . Turning off Sync will not effect SMS , MMS only applications such as your Email, Facebook, Account Backups such as Google, etc.

*This particular bug seems to have to do with the cell radio searching for signal ( for an in depth explanation see the XDA threads linked below ) . Turning off Wifi calling is one of the main recommendations . Of course you can use Wifi calling just dont leave it on while the device is idle or not in use for specifically making/receiving calls .
Also check your settings under the Advanced Setting option under your Wifi Settings and turn off the Allow to Always Scan option . Also check Wifi on /off all the time , Only when charging or Never option and check option accordingly. If you switch to never the phone will revert to 4gLTE when the screen is off and will use less battery when the device is sleeping . This will consume more data but really nothing significant. You can also change settings on a per app basis to limit background data . This will force the application to only use background data while connected to Wifi . This option can be found in the Settings menu under Data Usage and can be adjusted by checking of the Restrict Background Data box .

To reduce Cell Standby battery usage it is recommended to turn the Mobile Data off when you are on Wifi . This will stop the cell radio from constantly searching for a signal ; especially if you live in an area where coverage is spotty .
*If you have the Smart Network Switch activated under your Wifi settings it will no longer work as stated when the Mobile Data is turned off .

Before this reply gets any longer or ends up confusing you I will link you to a thread pertaining to the issue so you can get a better explanation of all of this . I will also post some screen shots to help guide you Through the Settings menu.

Wifi Calling settings can be enabled or disabled from two locations : Under Phone Setting or under More Networks

To turn off Mobile Data for all services : Mobile Networks or on a per app basis under Data. To restrict background data on a per app basis chose the Data setting then scroll down to select an application. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select to Restrict Background Data

I hope this is somewhat helpful . I didn't want to overwhelm you but I also didn't want to over simplify being that you are more familiar with the iOS . Definitely take a look at the link I posted to get a better explanation of what is causing the battery drain. Welcome back to Android. Once this bug is fixed you will be back to enjoying the freedom and customization that makes the Android platform a great users experience. In my opinion the iOS is a very limited and simplified OS that is too restrictive to the user . Any other questions feel free to ask away . The Android Community here is usually very responsive and eager to help !

Battery life on the Galaxy S6 Edge is pretty shabby in my opinion. Great screen, great looking smartphone and great camera is what makes people buy this phone then they realize that battery life, signal reception and wifi reception suck.
