Help Battery life issues - is this normal

I am a new Droid user, moved over from BB.

My issue is battery life and I wanted to see if this was normal. I have been what I would consider to be a moderate user since I got the phone a few days ago, mainly playing with the phone to get used to using it but I did the same thing with my BB Storm without an issue.

I basically have been able to get about 4 hours of use out of the phone before it is ready to die. I have let it die out once and re-charged it while the handset was off and it lasted about 6-7 hours with light use. Today, I dropped the brightness down to the lowest level, turned off the 4g, charged it for about an hour while in the car and it is currently at 44% (off the charger at 7:30a, currently is 5:37p).

I bought the phone FOR the 4g and the display so if I cant use either - or can if I only want to use it for a few hours; what is the point. I have read through this forum to see about battery life and I dont think that it should be normal to have to buy another battery and carry it around to last the work day. This cant be normal, right?

p.s. I hate the bloatware on my phone and rooting seems tempting. I would consider myself pretty tech savvy but not really confident I could do it without messing up the phone. I can follow directions but it seems a bit above my paygrade just to get rid of apps I dont want to see.

and any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Came from a BB myself. Rooting will pretty much solve everything from what i have read but i myself am not ready to try such a thing. That being said i haven't had the same problems you have mentioned. In fact after a full day of work i took advantage of the free $25 dollar media hub offer, picked up Eagle Eye, just got done watching it on the phone and it only just now is screaming for a charge. All that with iMobster running in the background too.

For normal day to day i keep the display at 30%. Though when watching this movie put it back to 100. Make sure you don't have that auto adjust screen brightness thing as it eats up tons of juice. I also have auto sync off (saves juice just to click refresh yourself rather than have the phone auto check for app updates every few seconds) but am able to leave background data on as it hasn't affected me yet. Though that also sucks up juice so something to consider.

For the phone itself i use Go Launcher EX along with Xscope Browser instead of the defaults. Runs smoother and also consumes less juice if what i have read is to be true. Overall took me a few days of tinkering with it but as stated above the phone now works great and while power hungry i am able to make it through the day even with auto 4G on. Hope this basic info helps.

I came from an original Droid which had great battery life for me. With the Charge, the battery life was terrible the first three days, however it has vastly improved. I am a light to moderate user with call, texting, and app use. I am in a consistent 4G area and routinely get 16 to 18 hours out of one charge. If the phone comes off the charger at 730 or 800am, by midnight or so I usually have 25-30% left on the battery. I did see battery life improvement when I turned off syncing for Facebook and Twitter. I have had the phone two weeks now and have noticed the battery life get better during that time. I'd say that if the phone has been on for 10 hours (730am to 537pm) and is only down to 44% with just a one hour car charge refresh during that time, that's not bad at all. Just my two cents. Good luck with your phone!

So I was in similar concern. But I loaded up phone and was getting 4-5 hours. I had some other issues and swapped to a new dc. I left phone stock and find if I leave gps, wifi and bt off the ohoen lasts a real long time. I added extended battery and go 10 hours with moderate use, dozens of emails and some browsing all in 4G area and still have 50% battery left. So I suspect bt and wifi eat batter and also I need to load apps slowly and see which apps were also hurting battery. I plan on easing back into my apps, but I think Bluetooth is adraini and wifi enabled when not in use as well and lastly gps seems to be a battery suck.

With moderate use I can get through a whole day... 16-18 hours. However, I am not a light user... since the phone is new I use it quite a bit, always tinkering when I have downtime. With that, it EATS battery.

To adapt, I bought a car charger and a spare battery... haven't had to stay away from the recharge long enough to use the spare battery yet, but that day will come... and soon.

The screen is amazing, and it eats battery mH's.

I don't use Bluetooth, but have had the phone on WiFi all day the past couple of days now that school is out and I am at home most of the time. It seems that WiFi uses very little of the battery on my phone. I will be in a 3G area next week, so I'm curious to see how well the battery performs on just 3G as opposed to 4G. GPS is a big battery drain. Even in my original Droid, it sucked the battery dry in no time.

I was at the 44% after I switched the phone to the lowest screen settings and to 3g. Prior to that, it was dead by about 4p if I didnt charge.

I love the phone and I am already a big fan but not used to the battery drain issues. I could have my bb on full blast, ran it pretty hard and I could still let it go without charging for a day and a half.

I have been looking at different apps for battery life but I dont see how any app can make my battery better without closing functions which I can do without an app. Hopefully the battery gets better over time like Chi Town said because if not, we will have to visit our local VZ store and they are going to have to give me a cookie.

I appreciate the tip on the Facebook, I dont need that to auto refresh and I turned it off. WiFI was already off and I dont us the bt so it is off too and both have been for the past day or so.

I want to get a new launcher and was looking at some last night. I thought that I read that there is one where you can hide the bloatware but I dont remember which one. Whichever one it is, I plan to get it.

I'm sure others do it as well, but Go Launcher EX hides the bloatware and any other apps that you don't want to show up in your app drawer. It's a feature of the launcher that is very easy to use. You just choose which apps that you want to hide and you won't see them. It's awesome!
