Battery life on Mesmorize...7 hrs?

Wow, I was happy with 16 hours, now after 10 days I have no problem making it 40 hours. Google synced almost all the time.

That is what I thought as well. But when I downloaded advanced task killer from the app store it showed all kinds of programs running in the background. Facebook, weather chanel, news sites,.....stuff that didn't show up on the "active applications"

am i doing this right? I have to kill an application everytime I get out of it or it will run and drain my battery?
 
Do you have your blue tooth off and wireless off if you are not using them?

how many days have you had it? the longer you have it the better the battery gets.

Buy a second battery. I have everything turned off and my battery life is not that great but then again i'm used to Blackberry and you get a lot on those phones. I don't want to buy an extended battery since they are soo huge! and the slim one only gives you an extra 100 mha and that's really not much for $50 so the best thing will be a second battery for me
 
The "Advance Task Killer" to be blunt, sucks. The Mesmerize as previously stated comes with a "task manager". I suggest putting the widget on a screen so you can see the actual number of the programs running. Its really useful.

My battery will last all day and night, sometimes a day and a half. this is normal to me seeing as I have had the iPhone, Acclaim, Desire, and now the Mesmerize.

I would definitely check how often your apps are updating. Everything from Facebook, email accounts, weather, etc. is normally set to update by itself. I have them turned off and to only update when I am viewing that particular app.

In settings, you can also choose to have your screen turn off sooner. This will save the battery as well.

Once you change your settings, it took my phone a few charge cycles to hold better. I don't know why, but it seem to get better after a few full charges.

And to answer this question...

When you are running an application and then hit the "home" button, it keeps the app active in the background. Then you would have to go to your task manager and kill that app.

If you are in an app and hit the "back arrow" on the phone until you reach your home-screen, this does not leave the app running in the background.

There are your two options.

X2 on everything said about ATK. Do a search on it in this forum, you'll learn that it is at best no more help than the stock task manager, at worst, it makes the problem worse.

There are some really good articles out there that explain why it doesn't help.

I can't post links in here, if you are interested in reading them, google "why is advanced task killer bad for android?" and read some of the article hits. There is a FAQ that is very informative, and several other places have good explanations as well.

The power settings widget can help, and there are some good apps in the market as well. I use an app called Silencer Pro. It allows you to set up several different profiles that automatically turn services on or off depending on your needs.

If you're sitting at work, you don't really need the GPS running. That drains a lot of battery. You also may or may not need the WiFi or Bluetooth on, so you can set your work profile to turn those off as well.

You can also manually control these functions yourself with the slidedown status bar, but if you would like to "set it and forget it" this will allow you that freedom, too.

In general, your display will drain the most battery, and the WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS functions are right behind that.

Once I started managing these services more, rather than just leaving them on, the battery life dramatically improved.
