Battery life questions

I got the M9 the weekend before last. It is an awesome phone. Except for battery life and problems I caused for myself (see my other thread. :p:cool::D ) I know battery problems have been brought up in about every single review there is.

Using Jump!, I traded in my Samsung S5 on the M9. I don't regret the trade at all. But I have a question or two.

With the S5 I could go 2 days without having to put it on the charger. And when I did, it still was at about 40%. With the M9, I have to charge it every day. I am running the same apps on the M9 that I was running on the S5. If anything, I'm running less apps on the M9 than I was on the S5. Both phones had/have Lollipop. Last night when I went to bed, the phone was at about 40%. Six hours later when I got up, the battery was STONE COLD DEAD. I'm not sure what was running in the background, if anything, but dang!!

Since I am running the same apps and have the same operating system, what is it about the M9 that causes such a HUGE difference in battery drain?

To get a better grasp of what's up w/your battery life,I'd suggest getting one or both of these apps & find out what the culprit is:

I have both, but, rarely use 'em,I've been fortunate to not have too many battery drainage issues w/any of my devices, less the wide-spread ones that are not unique to a specific device.

If you have ?'s regarding setting up/using the app(s),you can also look here:

It's called new phone syndrome. Your hands suck the life out of the phone.

Under normal daily usage (and I'm on the phone a lot) on calls, texting, I have a push email (exchange) and I can go to bed with a good 15-20% charge left. I get up around 6:30 am, and im bed no later than...around 1:30 am lol. So it is definitely a full day of usage.

I turned on the regular "Power Saver" in the settings which seems to have made a huge difference. Now my daily battery drain, including overnight, only drops it to around 60%.

Maybe the first couple of days I spent a lot of extra time fiddling around with settings, (making the phone do things I didn't like and not remembering I did it  ). I have even disabled some pre-installed apps that I don't use, at least where possible.

But I'm still at a loss as to just why, at least *before* I turned on the power saver, if the operating system is the same and I run the same apps, why would the S5 charge last for almost 2 days and the M9 would only last barely a day, especially since I am no longer suffering from "new phone syndrome" ;):).

If it simply boils down to nothing more than differences between manufacturers, that's fine. I'm just curious.

Way too many variables to give a definitive answer:
1) Could be some d/l apps aren't optimized for both O/S.
2) Different hardware
3) No real-time side-by-side tests to make an accurate comparison w/the exact same apps running.

Load up the app in the link above & ask around if you need help interpreting the data.

i have had mine a week & it lasts all day, with a reasonable amount of usage, so i am very happy with it. previous smart phones (HTC Desire HD & Samsung Galaxy s3 didnt). So overall i am impressed with it to date
