Battery Life Thread

UBRocked

VZW Nexus Please!!!
Hey gang. I wanted to share my battery life experiences thus far. I'd had been on mytablet for much of the day today and took the screenshot below after a pretty web surfing intensive day. I still had 21% battery life left at the time I snapped this:

This was while on Prime v1.5 OC'd to 1.2GHz. I was pretty impressed. I had my screen brightness set to about 30% all day.

So battery questions, experiences, etc., lets keep it all here in this thread.

Only had my Asusu EeePad Transformer 3 weeks, but I'm also impressed the the extended battery life. After installing Free Dual Battery App which shows both the Pad & Keybord Dock battery.
After a full re-charge the Dual Battery App displays both batteries at 100%. Then as the EeePad is used the Pad Battery keeps 100% whilst still topping up by taking power from the Keyboard battery. The process of both is displayed on the App.

if you leave your TF docked in the keyboard while it's off for a long time, it will drain the battery in the keyboard in about 3 days (without use)...at least it does in mine. I keep them separated when not using them for a long time.

That...is...the COOLEST utility I've ever seen. That integrated into the OS? Love how it doesn't just show the graph but also the bars where it shows wifi on, screen on, etc. VERY cool.

Yeah, that's built into the settings. Believe it or not, that is not as functional as what's available on most android phones. For some strange reason, you can't see the specific apps or processes that is eating your battery on any of the Honeycomb tablets.

I think all the minute details by app for battery are unnecessary. For memory usage, sure but right now, the only 2 things on my battery usage thing are wifi and the screen @ 97-3% respectively. The tablet has the screen, the wifi and wake which have the biggest impact anyway, and do so over time which is very handy. The phone doesn't do that.

I have a Vibrant (tmo galaxy s) that's been hacked to pieces. I'm running a Team Whiskey ROM and I don't even know any more what kernal. I guess this ROM does it a little differently. I have the screen, there just hadn't much there.

Some Gingerbread ROMs don't have that screen just like the Honeycomb ROMs...

Newer isn't always better for some things I guess. :)

True true. I am indeed running what's called a "bits of gingerbread" ROM. It's like a hacked, modified froyo/gingerbread hybrid. I quite like it.

mihaelb. I appear not to have your problem....After recharging to full Pad & Dock. After 4 days Battery has possibly ? not lost any shown less charge.
I believe every type of battery depletes slowly after a few days of shelf life.

But must say I'm very pleased so far with my Transformers Battery life...Dual Battery Widget keeps me well informed.

Cool...thanks for following up! looks like a wipe is coming. If I leave mine docked (and asleep), after 3-4 days, the dock's battery will be empty.

Sounds like you have the tablet set to let the dock wake the tablet which uses dock battery as the dock doesn't sleep as it's busy looking for input. You can disable this feature in the Settings, Screen, check the option "Mobiledock battery saving", and the dock keyboard will no longer wake the tablet but it will save a lot of dock battery. Also check the WiFi settings and set the sleep policy to off when the screen is off. That will also make a big difference to battery life. As soon as the screen is unlocked, it starts using the wifi connection immediately and downloads any new updates, emails, etc.

If you have the Mobiledock battery saving feature enabled already, then you may have the dock issue noted on XDA forums about an older chipset in the docks that doesn't let it sleep properly. I can't recall the thread name offhand though...

Yes, you can see the Apps using the battery.
Just press Battery use at top left of the graph to show the reduced graph mode with the applications listed. Then press the graph to go back to the expanded graph mode.

As for my battery use, I usually see about 10% an hour while browsing and some light gaming and apps. I can live with a 10 hour battery!

Now you can after an update provided that functionality. It didn't provide that information with older firmwares and even apps like spare parts couldn't provide it. Just an example of one of the bug fixes for honeycomb thus far.

Both options are as you say, so maybe I do have that early dock. I'll try to reset to factory first, see if that helps...will report back when I get to it.

One thing that I have noticed is that the keyboard's touchpad will drain the dock's battery, even with the keyboard set to not wake the tablet. The touchpad will still wake the tablet. If you manually turn off the touchpad (the fourth key on the top row), and then put the tablet to sleep (or shut down) battery drain is greatly reduced (or eliminated).

I found the touchpad only wakes the tablet for several minutes, then it sleeps too and will not wake the tablet. This is with my B60 dock and B60 TF without the dock sleep issue.

I was having issues with the battery draining faster than I thought it should. I changed the Asus weather widget to update every 4 hours rather than every 1 hour.... I think even though it wasn't updating every hour, it was trying and that was killing the battery. Thinking about removing the weather widget anyway.

I also changed my Wifi disconnect from "never while plugged in" to "when screen is off". I occasionally hear my email go off when the screen is off which means the Wifi is active, which means less battery life. I charged it yesterday evening and did some web surfing as well as watched 30 minutes of a movie last night, surfed and emailed while eating breakfast this morning, and right now it reads 86% battery. That's more like it. :)
