Help battery life worse after ics upgrade

I've just upgraded my SG2 to ICS & now my battery life is worse. Are there any settings to improve this?

On the whole the phone seems slower when loading apps, displaying email etc. I though ICS was supposed to improve performance? Again are there any settings which would improve responsiveness.

One I think helped me is the Google+ account. It was a pain. When I used the camera it automatically uploaded them to G+. I worked out how to turn this off, then kept getting repeated notifications of the upload. Arrggghhhh. The every time I took a picture google goggles would interfere and analyse everything I snapped. Turned all this off and have signed out of G+ and set it not to sync.

My battery drain was about 8% an hour. It has now reduced to around 3%
