Battery Life

Do any of you have battery monitoring apps or cache cleaning apps running that might help? I just got my note 4 yesterday and after 7 hours of being inplugged with moderate usage I roughly have 40-45% left. Maybe in time it gets better but I honestly didn't expect this bad of battery life. My note 3, after this same usage, would probably have 60-70% left
First of all I think your battery usage is very good. It can be better and the APP that a lot of people use is GSAM battery monitor. it gives you a snapshot of the usage by major category. If you click on the vacuum cleaner in the lower left corner it will go into more details and if you click on one of the details, it goes deeper.
Good luck!

I never run battery monitoring apps or cache cleaners.

Also, I would give it a few days to see if your battery life improves. My battery life sucked the first two days while I had to spend time setting everything up. After that, it was great.

Also, I don't run auto brightness. I keep the screen manually set at 10-15% (just bright enough to read indoors). For 80% of what I do, that's all I need. I also set apps like tapatalk and other readers to dark themes. You'll be amazed at how much battery life you can get when you are not using an overly bright screen. These big displays will suck down the juice with a bright screen.

Actually it has gotten better after 2 days. Its been trial and error. I main app that I found that was eating up battery life was Google+. I turned off synching except for my email, calendar, and music for my google account. Now it appears to have gotten better. I'll keep my eye on it the next couple of days to see how it goes.

Update: I have gone 7.5hrs and have only use 20% (gsm battery monitor app). This is with light web surfing, checking emails, downloaded/installed a couple apps, Bluetooth on for about 4.5hrs straight, listening to music (on phone). I am loving the battery life now.

This is my first android phone and im crushing through my battery life. I quit running apps and make sure that wifi and bluetooth are off when i dont need them...help...

That is odd, I'm having great batt life, I'm averaging 6-7hours On Screen Time (usage) with 12-15hours off charge, and I generally have around 25% battery left.

I'm between Wifi and 3G as 4G is still quite spotty here, so I turn it off.

My setup:

Network: WCDMA/GSM (Auto connect)
Display: 35% brightness, unless I'm outside, then I do Auto.
WiFi: 85% of the day (home & at work)

I'm quite happy, yesterday I went to a conference and I did a mini live-tweet feed of each speaker, I took a lot of pics, uploaded to Twitter and Instagram a lot, did quite a bit of WhatsApping, then went a friends place, did a bit of Google Hangouts, playing vids in Instagram, also played some YouTube and used SNote quite a bit.

This was the result:

Note, I was on Mobile Network 95% of the day, it was a day out of the norm for me so it made for a great test day of how robust the batt really is.

My battery life got very good after the first couple of days. I can uplug from the charger at 6am, go to work and do some moderate usage (emails, surfing, some apps) and have iheart streaming from 7am-3:45pm and by the time I leave from work I have roughly 60-70% remaining.

I'm coming from a Nexus 4 and definitely enjoying battery improvements from the Note 4. Having said that, it seems this battery drains more quickly than I expected... especially when I'm not even using it. I do have location services on, as I did on my Nexus 4 - but it seems I *almost always* have the little location icon blinking in my notification tray

I took some screenshots which show the drop in battery, and at the end when I'm at 12% it was only 2h45m of screen on time

I'm not aware of any way I can actually dive into Android System/Android OS to actually find out WHAT'S causing this battery drain...

Am I expecting more than this phone can deliver? Anything I can look into or change to improve battery life?

Check this Link out. it's an Androidpit article on battery improvement for the Note 4. Well, a good place to start anyway. try Googling "note 4 battery tips". Me personally, when I know I'm going to be "off the phone" for a while I switch t to the "U. Power Saving" mode. You can still text, make calls, facebook and net,a s well as a few other items. And yeah, it switches phone into a black and white mode. But going back and forth between the "U. Power Saving" mode, I'm still over 40% after heavy usage over a 14-16 hour period.

One quick other thought. There is an update for the Note 4 going back before the North American launch, No sure where you are, but maybe check to see if you've gotten it. It dealt with battery related issues , and should improve your battery life as well.

How many times have you charged your battery? How low have you let it get before recharging?
It could be mental, but the first few cycles seemed to last shorter than now. Is your device still sorta new? I still find 1 day and 9 hours to be very respectable.

I just thought I would add a post on this fine thread about my battery life experience.

I am coming from a GS3 - never had a Note device. My GS3 was awful for battery - so much so that I picked up a Zerolemon 7000mah battery. Even with that, I sometimes needed charging during the day.

With my N4, I mostly don't charge during the day. Settings are pretty much stock, as far as sync, auto-brightness, I don't use the battery saver mode. So far, I have been averaging 4.5-5 hours Screen On Time, and finishing the day with less than 10% battery left. While I was hoping to get a bit closer to 6 hours, I am pretty happy with what I am getting. I really only need to charge during the day on very high use days.

Worst day was 4 hours screen on time, with 3.25 hours CPU time playing "Game of War". I am guessing that if I gamed a bit less, the battery would last a LOT longer.

Just thought I'd share some battery stats with you guys, I've just had this phone for a week now I think it's quite impressive since coming from a gs3.

I just bought my Note 4 and have noticed really chappy battery life. I have all settings off: notifications off, no apps running, no wifi, no adaptive screen, screen brightness almost dark, no bluetooth, no location services, no live wallpaper, etc and it's still draining about as bad as an iPhone 4. I just turned it back on and the battery dropped from 80% to 77% after just downloading this app and typing. I'll provide a screenshot. Now that 1 hour and change on battery is false. It didn't drain from 100% to 77% in an hour. I've had the phone on overnight without being plugged in but I didn't use it while sleeping of course. It just drops substantially very quickly. Now, my question is whether the note 4, like other phones, is conditioning the battery as I use it? When I had the droid Maxx the battery was horrible but after a few weeks or so of use the battery seemed to last longer. Is that the case with this phone or is it maybe a bug in the latest software that Samsung needs to fix or some other issue? I even turned off 4G. Loved the speed but didn't want the battery to drop even faster. Thank you for any help. :)

just from looking at your screen shot. your SCREEN is eating up all your battery. 46% for the screen is horrible.
as far as teh conditioning aspect goes. these new lithium batteries dont need that anymore. from what ive read and come to understand you dont want to let your battery go dead and then fully recharge. once it drops to like 30-40% charge it. with the new fast charger that comes with the phone it take 20 minutes maybe to fully recharge.
i do know with mine when i first got it about a month ago. the first couple weeks i got a good 28-30 hours and im a heavy user. but now.id be lucky to get 24 hours out of it. but that is way better than my S3.... i know i didnt give you any real help but i hope it does give you some insight.

I have an N901G and a N910K, both are fine on battery life. Get 2-3 days with light use, 1-2 days with heavy to moderate use respectively.

Thank you, Mikestony. I thought my post was deleted. Lol yes I have no idea why my screen is eating up 49% of battery. I have the brightness all the way down. The slider is nearly all the way to the left. Maybe I'll take it back for battery replacement? I hope they don't want to change the whole phone. I absolutely love the phone. I know I made the right choice but maybe I got a bad battery.

Ok I think it is just a bad phone. Either it is something that seems only to magnet itself to me all the time or maybe the Note 4 is just a bad phone altogether. I swear. I buy phones all the time and there is always a 50/50 chance whether I get a good one or a defective one. I just factory restored my device and the screen is still saying 51% after I tweaked all the settings. It has lost 10% in a matter of about 30 minutes and I am getting frustrated with buying defective phones. I am really unhappy with this phone. I am hearing people getting all day use and still have nearly half the phone battery life left and they claim they use the phone heavily. I am seeing screenshots that prove it. Either this phone's battery is a piece of crap or I got a defective phone. Probably both. Hopefully I can take it back and the screen protector they slapped on it won't cause them not to want to take it back. There is no way that this phone, brand new out of the box, is getting to 51% after about 7 hours with hardly any use. It's just not possible. So far, Note 4 hasn't wowed me at all.

Wow this fast adapter charger my batt in less then 2 hrs to 100% while I was on the phone.. pretty impressive.. so like 2 hr downtime and another 8 hrs isn't bad..
You're not suppose to use the phone while it's being charge. That just kills the battery faster in the long run. Plus that's making the battery hot and heat is not a very friendly to the battery when it's being use and charge at the same time.

Yes any other charger is much slower. I've tried. The n4 fast charge is about 30 Mins to an hour to refill. Others are overnight.
I drain my new note 4 battery phone down to like 10% then I let it fully charge back up in 25 minute. rinse repeat that on every new phone and the battery will last you for more than 2 to 3 year.

It's true that heat is the enemy.

It's perfectly fine to use most phones while they're on the charger.

This myth has been repeatedly proven untrue.

Not sure if it's been suggested in this thread, but I read doing a partition wipe helps out. I did it, and now my battery is performing rather well. Been getting 24hrs plus, on consistent basis, the past few days. May or may not help, but it did for me....

I'm having a similar problem. I've had my phone for about a month now and I can't go a full 12 hours without charging. I do use my phone quite a bit, but some days it seems to last longer than others, with no change in usage. I've attached screenshots. T-Mobile My Account seems to be a pretty big drain most, but not every, days. Any suggestions? Thanks!Screenshot_2015-02-19-09-23-48.png Screenshot_2015-02-19-09-23-51.png Screenshot_2015-02-19-09-23-56.png

Get rid of that T-Mobile thing, turn off notifications, force stop apps from running, turn off location services, if you're not using bluetooth turn that off. I exchanged my phone for another one and it's working great. I use it constantly and it's still 30-40% when I go to charge it at the end of the day. It may be a defective battery or phone. You should take it back if turning off everything doesn't help.

I killed the T-Mobile app last week due to battery usage. Something in the last update really makes it run a lot in the background. 25% of my battery usage was way to much for what little use that app is.
