Help Battery not charging past 64%!?

Hi,

So a few days ago I woke up after charging my s3 the whole night to it being at only 64% charge. After an hour that was down to 15%. And then after a while it hangs around at 1 or 2%. When I charge via plug socket it takes a while to get charged upto 50-65% and then stalls. USB from computer takes even longer and occasionally doesn't go past 5%.

This happened all of a sudden out of nowhere. I think that either the port on my phone has broke, the battery is faulty or the phone charger is poor. I've tried another phone charger and I get the same thing. I've dropped my phone a few times by accident, but I don't think the port is broke as the phone still charges.

I'm going to order a new battery off amazon to see if it makes any difference. Has this happened to anyone else? How did you fix it?

Thanks!

This happened all of a sudden out of nowhere....

....I've dropped my phone a few times by accident...

Hello sixoneniner.

Those two remarks conflict with one another. ;)

Given that some devices begin to drain resources unexpectedly, most often following some change in the system (widget/app configuration or installation..etc), I would not trust my device to function as new if "dropped a few times by accident" (I'm sure you didn't drop it on purpose :D).

Anyway, I'd start by replacing (perhaps try a friend's with the same phone) the cable and charger block.. if no change I'd suspect some portion of the charging circuit in the device is damaged.

My wife's started doing this last week. Would not charge past 49% a few nights. She went to the Verizon store to ask about it and they just sent her a replacement. I was surprised as we have had ours for over 6 months now.

Seemed all better last night.

Well, seems I spoke too soon.

Wife got the new phone and it was good one night. The next night it did not charge up all the way again with new phone (using same old battery). Was stuck In the 70s or so.

Yesterday morning I switched batteries between our phones to see what would happen. This morning when waking up and phones being plugged in all night my phone with her battery was at about 90% with a last plugged in time of about 8 hours. I have not had the issue myself until now.

Her phone with my battery in it was at 74% with a last plugged in time of 9+ hours. By the time she left the house after unplugging her phone (15 minutes or so) the battery was down to 67%.

Very strange... I wouldn't think these batteries would die in 7-8 months...

Could be a bad charger and not the battery.

Possibly... But would have to be two bad chargers at the same time. I will test this out over the next couple nights. I have about 4 to switch between.

I also ordered 1 new Samsung (yes a real OEM battery) battery today to try out.

I hate saying "Battery calibration" coz i usualy get shot down by the genius' but sounds like a total case for it.
Any expert gona agree?

Ok, so new phone, new battery, 3 different chargers, and plugged into battery backup just to take any notion of line/circuit voltage problems in the house.

Didn't go past 47% overnight.

Very odd to say the least. I troubleshoot computer/network stuff for a living and this one has me stumped.

While still plugged in this morning after being plugged in for around 8 hours...
