Help BATTERY ON NEXUS 7 2012!

As of late, I have had so much trouble with it. It takes forever to charge, and it won't hold a charge once it has one. It gets very hot very fast, and it eats battery life like crazy. A half hour after using it during a full charge and it was down to 40%. HELP i do not know what the problem is!
 
All those symptoms are consistent with the battery shorting out. "Battery shorting out" is a usual symptom of an old rechargeable battery at the end of its life.

I'm new at Android, so it's possible my solution is way off.
