Help Battery problems

Okay, sorry if this is in the wrong place but I didn't see a support section.

Sorry if it's a bit long but I thought it'd be best to describe my problem rather than just say "my battery is being dumb, halp!"

A while ago I needed to get my SII replaced. Not sure if it was a refurb or not. Either way, it was working fine for a few months.

Recently I've noticed some odd battery behaviour. One night I heard the low battery buzz and I plugged it into the wall. The next night I needed to go out. When I went to unplug it, I noticed it was only at 33%. I thought it was odd but figured I didn't plug it in all the way or that maybe the wire slipped out slightly. It lasted long enough but was dying within 2 hours.

So, I plugged it in, then heard the dying buzz again a bit later, I check it and notice wifi is on so I shut it off. But it was meaningless because it soon dies anyways, while it was charging.
So I've tried to let it die and recharge it to "recalibrate the battery" or whatever. At first it would start charging then soon die, until eventually it just stopped charging completely. I tried plugging it into my laptop also in case the wall unit was the cause.

I struggled for a few days until I tried cleaning the USB with some rubbing alcohol like I read online. It proceeded to not charge on the laptop but it did become recognized twice for a split second, with the battery symbol popping up. So as a last ditch effort, before bed I plugged it into the wall.
Edit: Would also like to mention that after using the rubbing alcohol, plugging it into the laptop caused it to get hot.

It's almost 12 hours later now. It seems to be at about 70% or 80%. But I've noticed it hasn't been going anywhere for the amount of time I've been awake, and that the battery symbol periodically greys out with a question mark before the 70% battery appears again.

Is this battery going to be okay? Do I need a new one? Or should I send my phone in for repairs?
Edit: And now it's below half. I'm confused, it's not even on. :/

Try borrowing a friends micro USB charger and see if that works. Or try another USB to micro USB adapter cable. I had a problem like this with the USB cable but not the charger. It didn't make a good connection and would sometimes stop charging. When I used another USB cable it worked.

Alright, I'll try that. I was considering it but unsure since it's been the same one I've been using for a while. But I do have a spare because of the replacement.
