battery question

I am assuming that I need a new battery because the little red led light does not come on any more except briefly. Only when I turn the phone off and plug it into charge, does it charge up. Does anyone have an idea on this subject?

It's possible, but without having the phone in my hand to check a few things (like the discharge cycle of the battery at a few different rates), I wouldn't say for sure.

Turn the phone off. Plug the charger in. Leave it alone for 24 hours. See how long the charge lasts after that.
