Battery saver apps

Do battery saver apps really work that well? And if they do, are there any that you would really recommend? I have only tried one called Easy Battery Saver (link below), but it's hard to say if it really works, as some days the battery seems to last forever and other days it's only a matter of hours before it needs to be recharged, even without having used the phone very much. So do the battery saver apps really work or is it more of a placebo effect?

Most battery savers just turn things on and off to save battery in reality just follow these few steps
1)Shut off 3G/4G when not in use
2)turn of Bluetooth when not in use
3)set brightness to lowest and screentimeout
4)turn off auto sync
Those will help save A LOT of battery :)
Hope this helps :)

i use juice defender ultimate to conserve battery. this can be configured to your likings and needs and will work when you forget

I've had three Android phones, and turning off Bluetooth (which I never use anyway), lowering the screen brightness, shortening the screen timeout, and disabling autosync have had almost zero effect on battery life for any of the three phones I've had.

The only thing I've found makes a difference is turning mobile data off when the screen is off and turning it back on when the screen is on. And that's what most of these battery-saver apps do... just automatically, so you don't have to manually do it yourself each time.

I've tried several "battery saver" apps, and quite frankly I was unimpressed.

Depends entirely on your usage pattern. On a busy day where i have a lot of things getting done, and my phone sits idle, GreenPower gives me an extra 5-8hrs of battery life in standby. In a slow day where I play or read a lot on the device, I get no savings.

I never use them. Setting up the phone properly is the best battery saver. Sometimes savers cause problems rather than solve them - Juice Defender is particularly offensive.

That said, in certain special use cases they can be worthwhile by offering particular options not otherwise available.

As people have mentioned before, it depends on your phone use patterns. If you're constantly checking your phone and turning the screen on and off, then that means the "battery saver" app will be constantly trying to turn your mobile data on and off, which can result in some buggy behavior from your phone (I've found in particular the Verizon Galaxy Nexus isn't good at always reconnecting when mobile data is turned back on after being turned off and on again a few times).

If you use your phone quite a bit but with long stretches of inactivity in between and if your phone can reliably disconnect and reconnect when mobile data is toggled, there's no reason a battery saver app can't actually save you battery life, and quite significantly.

I'd highly recommend the MyTouch 4G (HTC Glacier), which I had before switching to Verizon. Great phone. Worked very well with turning mobile data off and on. Saved lots of battery that way.
