Battery shot after update

Hi all,

I have an HTC Desire through Virgin Mobile. About two weeks ago, I was prompted to download a system update, so I did. My battery hasn't lasted through the day since (I have it plugged in all night, I go to work, and it's either dead or at 2% battery power when I get home. Most days I don't even look at it while I'm working). I never had a battery problem before with this phone; also the battery icon turned from green to grey after the update (which is really just an annoyance).

I've turned off location service and disabled every app I don't use, like Twitter. I use words with friends semi regularly and I have a podcast player, but that's about it. Any ideas/suggestions?

Hi Zakia1, and welcome to Android Forums. :)

There are actually a number of things that we can investigate and try to improve your battery life - and, being an older device, I wouldn't really expect a new update to resolve anything.

First, it would be good to figure out what's using up your juice. You should be able to find out by using Android's built-in battery usage screen. I believe on the Android 2.x releases this was buried under Settings > About Phone > Battery use. That screen should give you some basic clues about which applications or system services are using up your power. If you'll post the top figures we can help you analyze them and figure out where to go from there.

A few of questions first.

Are we talking about the original HTC desire here which was shipped with Android 2.1 & upgraded, over the air, to 2.2?

Is your phone running stock HTC sense? (not rooted).

Is it a GSM phone? That is does it have a SIM card?

The last over the air update for the original Desire was over 3 years ago. There was however an official update to Android 2.3 gingerbread available from HTC a copy of which can be found here http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...Bravo&file=HTC_Desire_Android_2.3_Upgrade.zip

Be warned though that this is a ROM Upgrade Utility so will factory reset your phone. Backup anything you need first.

Also it is for the original GSM Desire only.

To run it open the zip file, run the exe file & follow the prompts.

However if you are rooted with a custom recovery there are a number of other things that you can try.
