Help Battery stays at 50%.

So I got my hands on a problematic OPO a few days ago that wont charge at all.
It wont charge when connected to the wall charger nor when plugged in a PC. The only way the previous owner was able to charge it was taking to a phone repair service where they would just take out the battery, charge it using an external battery charger and put it back in. Then the phone shows 50% battery all the time, never goes up or down, and lasts around 2-3 days. The owner got tired of visiting the repair shop every 2 or 3 days to do that and handed it over to me. I thought the USB flex cable is the problem so I ordered this one: (oops cant post links) to replace it but it wont be here for another 3 weeks.

So these are the facts so far:
  • Battery has been replaced, so its not a faulty one(or so I have been said)
  • Charger and usb cable are OK as I have tried a few different ones.
  • Phone connects to the PC and can browse it for files.
  • When switched ON and plugged in battery says "Not Charging"
  • When switched OFF the green battery animates to 100% but never goes up more than 50% permanently.

Any ideas on where I can find an external battery charger(not a powerbank)? Ebay and Aliexpress don't seem to have anything like that.
Did I make the right choice ordering that flex cable or did I only waste my money?

Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Anything I can try at the moment?

Thanks in advance

Best regards,

Sounds to me like a problem with the charging port (although data transfer still seems to work).
I'd think the repair shop would have tried a few chargers :thumbsupdroid:

Does your phone have the stock/factory operating system?
Just curious,as I've never heard of anything remotely close to this charging issue.
Just to rule out anything weird w/the operating system,I'd ensure you're running a 100% stock O/S,without anything at all missing/deleted.
Then,I'd perform a factory reset.
If nothing else, you can rule out a software/firmware issue.

What exactly is the "charging port"? Is it replaceable?
The charging port is the lil socket where you plug in the charger. Aye its replaceable, either order the part yourself and check youtube for a video on replacing it, take it to a repair shop, or take your chances sending it back to oneplus in China for repair (should still be covered by warranty)
Defo try what KOLIO said first though :thumbsupdroid:

I think I am on stock. This the phone's info.

Code:
CYANOGEN VERSION 11.0-XNPH05Q

ANDROID VERSION 4.4.4

BASEBAND VERSION MPSS.DI.2.0.1.C7-00020-M8974AAAAANPZM-1

KERNEL VERSION 3.4.0-cyanogenmod #1

Build Date Wed Jan 28

Build Number KTU84Q

SELinux status Enforcing

Isnt this the stock version?

Also, I searched the official forums and found more threads about it which means others have it too I guess.

I no longer have this phone, but,I believe there is a newer official version of the Cyanogen O/S for the 1+1.
This in itself doesn't have anything to do w/the charging issues you're experiencing.
What I'm getting at is that by upgrading/updating to Cyanogen 12,you'll remove any doubt that the problem lies within the firmware/software.
You could also do this with a fresh copy of your current O/S,Cyanogen 11,or just perform a factory reset.
I honestly doubt that it's a firmware/software issue, but, this is the only way to remove any doubt.
You never know, the previous owner may have rooted the phone & messed w/something & gotten in over their head/etc.. & not knowing what went wrong.
Should a reset/updating to Cyanogen 12 not resolve your charging issue,my money's on a bad battery.............

I installed ColorOS to rule out the software but no luck. It says: "Battery error. Check the battery contact status". Should I order a new battery or am I wasting even more money?

Well,at least we're virtually certain this is a hardware problem.
The next step would be to call around to some local repair shops,or,if you're the Ultimate Masochist, give OnePlus a call (e-mail actually,I don't believe you can contact 'em via the primary function of the very device they sell)..... ;)

Only half-joking there,but,all kidding aside:
If you have another device that you can use while this one is being repaired,I'd get a quote from either a local repair shop,or,perhaps something on-line that you trust.
I'm certain that any warranty service is for the original owner/purchaser,but,if somehow you can swing that w/OnePlus,I'd give it a go.
OnePlus may even repair it for a nominal fee, whether it's worth it is your call.
If you feel your throwing good money after bad, take a look @ the ASUS ZenFone2.
It's rather affordable (U.S. $199/$299)........

Well the warranty on it is lost since the previous guy tried to "play" with it so I guess OnePlus is a no go.

The thing is that where I live repair shops have absolutely no idea what a PlusOne since am in a very small market and even if they did they d have to order the parts and wait 4+ weeks since there is no chance they ll have anything for this phone in stock. Also, I have repaired a few cracked screens for friends myself so I d rather order the parts and do it myself.

Shitty thing is I ve already paid 135+37 = 172 for it and it looks like its pretty much all wasted on nothing :/
I own an old Samsung W but needed something with a big screen for traveling but I am on a budget.
I can't believe I ve never came across that ZenFone2.... 5.5inches and micro sd for 200euros what a steal damn....
