Battery temperature

As I'm looking at a couple of different cases
1
Black Kickstand Double Layer Hard Case Cover for Samsung Galaxy S3 III i9300 | eBay
and the Otterbox Defender being the one I like the most.

I wondering if these sort of case trap the heat in.

My question is: what is a safe battery temperature and what is too high?

At the moment with a thin silicone case it's around 28c to 40c

Thanks Pep

Anything covering the battery will trap heat. I'd say 50-60C is getting in the area of too high. It shouldn't ever get that high unless the phone is working pretty hard such as wifi tethering, gps, and such while charging.

for the silicone cases on my phone, I used a hand held single hole punch and put speed holes in the back so it could breath.

With everything running, it would get awful hot.

Phones have Li-Ion batteries.
The Li-Ion battery's temperature operating range is:
for discharging -20C (-4F) to +60C (+140F).
for charging 0C (+32F) to +45C (+113F).

The battery won't be charged if the temperature is below 0C (+32F) or above +45C (+113F) because the phone's charge controlling will project the battery.
Therefore it'll shut down charging until the battery's temperature will meet again the charge operating range.
