Help Battery Usage in settings menu

Nice easy one for someone...

In the settings menu, applications or about phone menu, then 'battery usage' the graph is displayed showing the life of the battery since the last charge. all straight forward enough...

except for the two amounts of time displayed above it and below it. sometimes they show as different times, and with varying amounts of time between them.

what is the one on the top and what is the one on the bottom?

not much documentation on the issue... but from observation, the top time still refers to the same time before clicking the graph, and it marks the time that the battery is used without being charged. it pauses everytime you recharge your phone.. the lower portion... i'm not sure, but i believe, marks the time the battery is active in total; with or without charge?
