Battery use - update related?

A while back I bought a car charger that had enough juice to charge my phone while GPS was in use. This weekend all of a sudden I notice that's not happening any more...my phone is draining while connected with GPS in use. I also got an update pushed by AT&T recently, so I'm wondering if they could be related and something is causing more battery usage than before. It also seems to be draining faster under normal use but that may just because I'm looking for differences

I'm running GSam Battery Monitor, and the biggest power user is "android system", but I'm not quite sure what to make of that. How I diagnose what's going on and see if I can correct this battery drain?

It is related to the update. A lot of s3 users have had this after updating to KitKat (myself included) . for some it leveled off after a few charge cycles, well a couple weeks of charge cycles. But I did a factory reset and fresh installs of my apps to match the new system and it worked wonders.

I was afraid someone was going to say "factory reset". I really wanted to avoid that but was wondering if that might be where this was going. I guess I'll ride it out for a week or so to see what happens.

I also ordered a new car charger thinking maybe my charger was going bad and just not providing as much charge.

I've done plenty of factory resets, as well as switching to different roms. I've come to the conclusion that there's something in kit kat that eats battery no matter what I try.

When I switch back to a 4.3 rom, it's back to normal, and Android System is no longer the #1 battery user.

I wiped my battery stats a while back too. After a few weeks of KitKat my battery leveled off. It lasts all day with no problems. Usually 45% by night when I'm home. Now screen is back to #1 battery killer.

It's still not gotten any better. I'm seriously considering the reset. Has anyone else had any luck with this helping after the upgrade before I pull the trigger?

I'm still running 4.1.2 and my battery usage increased about 50% just out of the blue. I used to get home after work and had 75% or more left but now it's down in the 50's. It's been this way for a few months now but since I've only got about 6 months left on this phone I guess I'm just going to put up with it. It's not like I'm a heavy phone user anyway.
