Battery very slow to charge

Samsung Galaxy S3 - Battery is taking an eternity to charge up. 38% to 82% in about 12 hours isn't right. I think it is since I charged phone with a car charger previously but haven't had this problem before. Any ideas?
 
very common problem if you google it. Seems to be an issue with the cable. Try using a different cable if you can. I have reverted to using my old S2 charger and no problems.
 
Mine took 2 and a half hours to charge this morning from a 50% battery left. This has always annoyed me. I don't know if a car charger would have anything to do with it.

I always look at my battery settings and nothing appears out of the ordinary that would prevent it from charging faster.
 
It's due to the cable being dodgy. The kernel in the S3 detects any instability in the current flow and reduces the amount of power that actually goes into the phone, which means slower charge. If you root and use a custom kernel, you might be able to lift that security feature and get back fast charging. Otherwise, get a newer cable, BlackBerry ones are quite good.
 
Ive found that even a slightly worn out charger, even tho it charges constantly, charges REALLY slowly. Defo buy another at least 1000mA charger :thumbup:
 
Thanks everyone for comments so far. I tried the car charger again and it seemed ok so usb charging cable theory sounds about right. Will look at replacing. Thanks again.
 
My best charger started doing this. I replaced it with a $5 one from Amazon, and all is well again. They just quit sometimes. My wife has a really cool car charger with a retractable cable that is slow like that too.
 
I too have this problem and i started noticing this issue after i upgraded to Baseband version I9300DDEMG2. latest stock firmware version in India.. First i didn't think it was a firmware issue but it looks like the kernel has some control over the charging of the battery.. also it sometimes charges normally when i charge using my laptop USB...

I don't think this is a problem with the battery.. may be the cable or the charger or the mini USB port on the phone... please let me know if anyone is facing the problem on the firmware version..

also the charging takes even longer when wifi is on
 
I have the Sprint version of the GS3 and started having the slow charging problem. After four hours of being plugged in it might only charge from 40% to 60%. I switch to the charger and cable from my GS2 and and now it charges fast. I don't know if the problem was the cable or the charger but I can verify tonight.
