sorry guys, i might be speaking out of turn and place here, but my new phone is really pis*ing me off. i have an "ace" (not sure on its exact specification).
my problem is this, if i am very lucky, i get 5 hrs without the damn thing needing charging, i only use it for 5/10 texts per day. unplugged that is, i frequently use it as a sat nav (it is always plugged into the USB in my van when this is being used, so therefore should not drain battery). However whenever i go into my 'advanced task killer' the app for 'maps' is open, even if i kill it, lock the phone, then unlock, and open task killer again and BAM!! maps open again,, i dont use maps for my sat nav, but use the 'navigation' app. from how this seems my "mobile" (as it is rather generously named) may a well be plugged into the mains on a permanent basis.
please help my phone as you guys are all that are saving it from a short sharp trip to the nearest wall at 80odd mph
(it might be worth noting that last night, i woke up at 2:24, with the phone bleeping to tell me it was fully charged, i unplugged it, come 6:45 when my alarm went off, it bleeped again, this time to tell me that it wanted FUC*ING CHARGING!)

You really have one hungry battery mate :D

Nothing can be done of the maps while you are not rooted. Let the maps run in the background, it won't use too much ram. Look for an app that immediately kills the maps when it starts, something like an automatic task killer.

Charging via usb is not the same as charging through a wall socket. The voltage/amps from the usb are lesser than the wall socket, so the phone while in your van is draining faster than you are charging it.
Moreover the packet data/3g/2g/wifi/gps/bluetooth consume alot of battery.

To test your battery, turn all network connections off, lower the brightness, switch off vibrations and see how long it lasts on minimal usage.
It should go upto 15-20hrs, if it doesn't then you have a real battery trouble mate. Also keep all the things i have mentioned off when they are not required.
