Hi all. I'm an Android newbie but have been a developer the IT world for over 25 years so I'm comfortable around technology.
I recently purchased a no-name Android tablet (I think of Chinese origin). Here's the specs (as per Settings->About):
* The primary reason for wanting Adhoc Wifi is so that on my long train journeys to and from work every day is so I can tether my Android tablet (wifi only - no 3G/4G etc) to my jailbroken iPhone4 over wifi using MyWi4.
I've been reading articles around the net on Android rooting/SU etc but am more confused than enlightened.
1) I've used Titanium Backup (free) to backup all apps and system files to SD card (which I then copied over to my Windows 7 desktop). I'm presuming this didn't back up my ROM? Where is "the ROM" located?
2) How do I get SuperUser status on my tablet?
In addition, I'd also like to discover how to flash my tablet with other ROMs (especially JellyBean). So in this regard:
1) How do I backup the existing ROM? (and what files actually comprise of "the ROM"?). I've downloaded 'GooManager' and it doesn't seem to have a backup option. I downloaded 'ROM Manager' - it complained I didn't have SU enabled, but still started anyway. Then I clicked on the 'Backup ROM' option but it wouldn't work, saying that I didn't have ClockWorkMod installed (and it wouldn't install it because I didn't have SU).
2) Does anyone know where I can find a suitable ROM replacements?
Also, I'd like to know:
1) How do I know what chip my tablet is using? A9? A10? Is there an app that will tell me? I can't seem to find one.
Any help appreciated.
* Searching for "BC1077" in Google doesn't yield many results. So that's why I've started this thread - in the hope that other BC1077 users will have a central repository of knowledge to come to.
Cheers,
Mark

I would like to install Super User for this device. The primary reason being that I'd like to (somehow - I don't know how yet) modify the wpa_suplicant file so my tablet will support Ad-Hoc Wifi. To do this I need SU enabled apparently.Android 4.0.4 (ICS - Ice Cream Sandwich)
