yeah, I've had this since my first Android device... only app I have bought from market, other pay apps I have I have gotten from the Developers on XDA and then donated directly to them

How do you get apps directly from developers? Is that on a rooted phone?

yes my phones and my wife's phones are all rooted. a lot of the developers for apps that require root hang out on xda and post the free versions of their apps there.
