BeejiveIM

I've been testing it. The app is very good overall, but has a few works I don't really like.

Example: the input box isn't on by default. You have to tap the screen to make your keyboard show up, then hit enter before you can start typing. Looks nice and doesn't have the fc problems that Trillian does.

Yes, so far this is pretty solid... Some things I've uncovered.

I have had file transfers say they failed, but according to the person I was sending to they went. I've had this happen 3 times on the same day with two different people. The second person I tried two protocols and a third with the first person (AIM/ICQ/GTALK)

The second day, I had some weird issue where I was reconnecting forever. I couldn't send stuff, and I couldn't sign out, seems I was in some sort of limbo. Eventually this worked itself out as well.

Swype doesn't work until you hit some key first before you start "swyping"

No "take picture", you can only select from existing, and it should IMHO give you way to reduce the resolution vs. sending an 8mp picture via mobile IM.

It would be nice if the Notification icon changed color when you have messages waiting, otherwise you just don't know without looking.

Nit Picky: I'd like the notification bar icon to be narrower, it's pretty big up there now.

The only other thing is, I guess either ICQ needs to go away (I'm talking to you friends that have only ICQ!!) Because I get a lot of spam on ICQ, some way to block all but current contacts would be nice. But I'd assume that's out of scope for a mobile IM app. Or, I guess adding some privacy settings for the protocols (i.e. not web visible in icq).

Its a little harder on battery than Trillian, however it gets messages right away pretty much always.

It's not as hard on the battery(AKA CPU) as PingChat is, but it does use a bit of CPU.

So far this is #1 for me followed by Trillian, then IMO you can group the rest of them together in the crap department.

Ah, is that keyboard issue only with Swype? I didn't try anything else.

I agree, this may be the tops. I'm torn between it and Trillian, but given that Trillian FC's on me now and again and this doesn't...

Well if I "touch type" with swype the bubble pops up. I just tried the default keyboard and it works fine (since you touch type anyway).

Yes the Trillian FC "loop" is quite irritating. But I'd say as of RIGHT NOW, if battery is a big concern Trillian wins, but be prepared for delayed messages. Sometimes they come pretty quick sometimes not.

Right now Beejive has only used 1m 55s in the last 8h according to system panel.

And oddly PingChat has only used 7s (no messages in or out) but that is unusual compared to what I've seen. There was an update, maybe that helped! (or maybe it's not actually running :-P )

I've been using strictly Beejive..I like it better than Trillian from interface to the fact that it doesn't force close constantly. I'll check for the Trillian update.

I don't like that I can't remove the notification icon on Beejive even after I've signed off.
